Pianist Jeremy Siskind shares 8 ways (at least!) of approaching a medium swing tune like "Autumn Leaves" with lots of demonstrations.
0:54 - Stride Piano
1:49 - Stride - Like Left Hand
3:20 - RH “Shuttle” - bass line in two vs bass line in 4 and RH is going to go in between
Interesting bass lines
4:53 - RH “Drape” (LH Bass) - Shuttle between RH playing the melody to the mid range of the voicing
6:04 - Major triads
6:25 - 6ths
6:32 - Melodic 2nd voice
6:48 Call and Response - separating the melody and harmony
7:52 Think like a big band - melodic accompaniments
7:59 Shearing/Drop 2 Voicings
8:35 - add call and responses
8:52 - add chords
9:00 - add more melody with shearing voicings
9:45 - Shared Hand Voicings
10:05 - Hold the bass
10:35 Separate the melody with the chords and bass
11:00 - Contrapuntal - Two Voicings
11:50 Video about linear arrangement
12:04 Summary - Overall Demonstration

I have subbed to your channel, and will most probably be ordering your wonderful book. I am utterly subjugated and flabbergasted at your prolific mastery of this king of instruments- the piano. The love of my life, but the instrument I DON'T play. I am afflicted with a bellows instrument, with triadic pre-prepared chords on the left hand, commonly known as the "squeeze box". If you (maybe rightly) think it's a toy, please look up my friend, Richard Galliano, the greatest living accordionist on the planet. However, the piano is my true love, and you do it justice Sir. My mind was blown away just with this Joseph Kosma's ditty- Les Feuilles Mortes in French. Most certainly the most played standard of all time. God bless. Greetings from France.

He comprado muchos libros sobre jazz piano.

I am going to buy your book, but nobody ever talks about peddaling and i tkind of bothers me, because when I sit at the piano I am thinking the stride like left hand which is what I wanna play with rootless voicings, are you Holding the Pedal and realsing when you the hit chord or are you peddaling all the way through and changing the pedal for the next bass note? when I Pedal with the bassnote and the chord than release for the next bassnote and hold it with the chord/ marrying the harmony blur together, it just sounds "strage" to me or something I am not used to in my headphones with my VST. HELP
@JeremySiskind

I’ll make it easy for you - if I’m playing in medium or up-tempo swing styles, I’m pretty rarely using the pedal. Here’s a video with some exercises for pedaling control and awareness - Pedaling Exercises - Gain Pedaling Awareness and Elegance kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g6-oi61lsbbUnJ8.html

If I’m being really honest, the way that I learned how to pedal was by studying classical music with good teachers, and having them guide me regarding what to listen for. I talk about pedaling fair amount in the book Playing Solo Jazz Piano.
