AV heart blocks EKG (ECG) interpretation made easy for first, second, and third degree heart blocks (heart blocks comprehensive NCLEX review).
Atrioventricular (AV) heart blocks occur due to some type of block in the heart's electrical conduction system. There are different types of heart blocks that can occur.
-First-degree heart block (1st-degree)
-Second-degree heart blocks (2nd-degree Type I and Type II):
-Type I, also called Wenckebach or Mobitz Type 1
-Type II (Mobitz Type II)
-Third-degree heart block, also called a complete heart block

Great content (as always). An interesting note here - the FAA just extended the PR interval for pilots’ first class medical ECGs to 0.30 seconds instead of the very long-held 0.20 seconds. While 1st degree & 2nd degree type 2 are typically not treated, they’re still concerning for the risk of deteriorating into a worse block, so that definitely seems a little disturbing to me.

Can athletes have a 1st degree AV block? My resting HR is in the 50’s… I train 5 days a week. Just found out I have 1st degree AV block.

Our program never emphasized heart block 🤔 It was a disadvantage when taking the critical care HESI.
