EKG / ECG interpretation basics nursing NCLEX review made easy. What is the meaning of EKG or ECG? This stands for electrocardiogram, which assesses the electrical conduction system of the heart.
🫀ECG Rhythm Study Sheets: shop.registerednursern.com
EKG interpretation quiz: www.registerednursern.com/ecg...
NOTES: www.registerednursern.com/ecg...
As a nurse, you'll want to be familiar with basic ekg/ecg interpretations, how to identify heart rhythms, P waves, T waves, PR intervals, QRS complexes, PR segments, ST segments, J point, QT intervals, and so forth.
In this video, Nurse Sarah breaks down EKG basics and gives examples of how to measure different parts of a 6-second EKG strip.
EKG/ECG strips contain small boxes that are found within larger boxes. These boxes represent units of time in seconds. Smaller boxes represent 0.04 seconds, whereas larger boxes represent 0.20 seconds.

During my most recent hospitalization i came so close to getting a pacemaker put in that it turned out I didn't need because the doctor had relied on a faulty reading from the bedside monitor which falsely detected that i was having up to a 6 second pause in the electrical activity of the heart...fortunately one of my nurses took the time later in the day to monitor both the EKG and the monitor at the same time and was able to determine that it was the monitor that was sending incorrect data and the procedure was canceled at the last minute.

Coming from someone who has inconsistent but recurring arrythmia, you would definitely notice a 6 second pause between beats. I've had what feels like 2 skipped beats in a row at times and it is horrifying. 🙃 So glad that someone cared and caught this before you had such a major procedure over nothing.

You are a wonderful teacher. I understand a lot from your teaching…6 years ago, I had a heart attack. The ambulance technician did an EKG on me. He knew right away something was wrong, so I was rushed to the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, where I received 4 stents in my left anterior descending artery ( LAD), which some people in the field called this LAD as a widow maker, which implies most men died due to blockage in that part of the artery leaving their spouse a widow…
