Would be interesting to see the difference in race mode between default sharpness and sharpness=2 as default is oversharpened a lot which unnecessarily takes bandwith. Also still hoping for a 720p30fps mode for LR flying :) .....thanks for the detailed review!

I ordered a HD Mini 1s Lite kit in the VRX combo when the $50 discount was available a few weeks ago. I have now discovered that it is a V3 VTX without the heatsink. Had wondered why 32GB memory is displayed and the voltage display was incorrect (which was fixed with the beta firmware).

i'm happy with my avatar mini hd 1s vtx cause it working fine in 720p 50mbps Focus mode with full power at 350mW. Latency is stable around 22-25ms and bitrate is also stable around 50-45mbps at radius range around 200meters. Clear image without smearing or being pixelated. The only complain I had is the lack of 4:3 aspect ratio. So I'm very interested only with the nano camera v3 because of the native 4:3 aspect ratio. After watching your review especially regarding the vtx v3 that is so much similar with the 1s vtx, now i more confince that i didn't need the v3 vtx.

I thought so also. The walksnail 540p looks better in the goggles than the 720p HDZ in my opinion

One thing that is best in ths VTX and 1S is the USB cable, the V2 normal (8 or 32gb) came with a plug that is so fragile that bends by even with the slightest "force" to plug it in. My case, got a VTX that will be stucked forever and not able to get DVR footage from the VTX.

In my case the plug goes in and out but doesnt work. The pin in the VTX is bended or broken, but the thing is that in the V2 this plug is very thin and fragile,, the v1 was stronger.@@mm8357

Has anyone found a Avatar Goggles case where you do not have to remove antennas? Removing antenna is a waste of my life 😂

I'm seeing a mixture of aliasing and compression, the aliasing is really very noticeable (shimmering). It needs some kind of anti aliasing technique, but I suspect not possible with current hardware. Thanks for the review Ian, hopefully we can still buy it next month lol.

Excellent video! You mentioned that it's straightforward to de-case the VTX. Any chance that you could make a short video on that? I'd love to have a lightweight VTX with 32 GB of storage but ideally I would know beforehand whether I've got the tools to take one apart.

Just unscrew all the screws, heat the VTX with a hairdryer or by letting it run for 30 seconds. Once warm just pull the metal and it’ll come off

Curious if the heatsink adds much thermal performance improvement over the 1s setup or if it burns up in the blink of an eye still?

Im excited if the 1s version of this can handle higher voltage. I have a 2s LiIon that was using the V2 1s board for about 3 weeks, when it just stopped working. I expect it was a voltage spike, but thats is 100% speculation. I would love to free up the 5v BEC on the board and run it directly off of Vbat from the main pads. Im not above decasing the V3 race to get a 1s capable board.

The two whoop boards that I received in the last month have V3 printed on the PCB, and 32Gb of memory. I presume they can also take the higher voltage?

I find it amusing that it's like "yeah, you can use race mode on the VRX module... but only if you use it with the HDZero goggles"... At which point you're certainly much better off just buying an HDZero VTX for when you're racing...

Well it actually seems you can use it on 60fps output however that then negates the benefit.

High power ELRS transmit power (over 250mW) will overwhelm hdzero goggles. When we race, we are required to keep radio transmitter power at or below 100mW to not cause interference with others

i prefer the beautiful picture of a latency filled DJI, or a the perfect instantaneous picture of HDzero. i dont like the sorta laggy, sorta smeary walksnail, it wants to be everything and its about to become nothing.

OFFTOPIC: CHINA SALES / EXPORT BAN UPDATE I have ordered today my 3rd F405 wing flight controller of this week in preparation of a russian mainland europe attack. The latest order is from 31st of August at 10 pm and caused an order on September first based on china's date and time zone. All purchases went smooth, all have been shipped, none of them has arrived. But so far speedy bee flight controller and drone controller seem to not be part of the export limitation. I will buy another one next week. EU Prices for these flight controllers have also increased meanwhile and therefore I do not have to loose much

Not a fan of 3D DNR noise reduction for FPV..!! It only works when the camera doesn't move It pretty much crippled the old Caddx Turtle in medium/low light :/

I’d rather have variable latency with walksnail over variable ‘being being able to see anything’ with HDZero and race mode.

I don't understand why freestyle pilots continue to test this race mode firmware in a non race setting. It's not designed for freestyle, it's not designed for range and penetration, it's designed to be raced in somewhat clear and close quarters. Nobody who's racing cares what the grass looks like. There's never been a time that I've raced a track and came back and landed and thought to myself Man that grass sure was blurry today 🤦‍♀️

Despite its name, I think it's more likely that this is used by freestyle pilots who are sensitive to latency than it is to be used by actual racers.

@@derek.bodner I can understand that freestyle pilots could be very sensitive to latency. I have some friends who started in analog and constantly complain about the latency of DJI. But they are addicted to visual clarity. Now I've let them fly "regular walksnail". 720p 100fps low bitrate. And they love it. Even bought into WS. They tried race mode on my set-up and immediately complained. Just like all the other freestyle pilots. It's a compromise to achieve a very specific goal... For racing. It's a lot like owning a minivan with auto transmission, lane assist, GPS, and auto pilot, with super glare reducing windshield. And you buy a single seat stripped down track car. Standard stick shift transmission, minimal power steering, no lane assist, no GPS, no autopilot, no air conditioning. And then that person would complain that they can't fit all five car kids into that single seat vehicle.

@MurdersFPV racers have fixed 4ms latency with HDZero @540p and penitration isn't an issue at any course. They are all using HDZero or analog. No serious racer is going to give themselves a disadvantage.
