This is part two of a four-part tutorial series for building an airbending staff like Aang uses in Avatar, the Last Airbender. Through a little innovation and creativity we can fit a six-foot wingspan neatly inside a staff that fits in the palm of your hand, all while making the final product so beautiful that you'll want to hang it on your wall!
Part 1: The Shaft: • Avatar, the Last Airbe...
For more details on the creative process behind this staff, check out my blog posts at ingeniusdesigns.com

WARNING: Airbending not included! This project is meant for display and gentle cosplay use. It is not intended as a weapon and it is not capable of flight. If you try to fly with it you could injure or kill yourself...and the staff too...which would be tragic.

Full disclosure, I haven't watched everything yet, but I'm way too excited to not say anything. This is SO FREAKING COOL and the channel is VERY aptly named! I'm making my son an Airbender costume for Halloween and since I can make bamboo folding fans I thought, well let's take a crack at that staff too. Found you when checking out other people's attempts (surprisingly not too many of those), read through a post where the pictures weren't loading, saw the "rolling" part and I absolutely needed to see what the heck that's about. Got to the tube "hooks" part of this video and it's clicked in my head and wow it's so freaking beautiful! Had to share this overwhelming, embarrassingly intense, fangirl energy before I explode or something! I definitely don't have the time, materials, or experience for this level of craftsmanship before Halloween - but I'm 100% modding my original plan in my head based on this rolling mechanism, and I'll definitely start working on your design next, even though I feel like it'll take quite a while! In the end I guess I really just want to say I love this, I love you, and you have no idea how happy this made me! I hope you continue to put ingenious designs out into the world!

Thank you so much!!! I apologize for the malfunctioning of my blog. I think I may have that fixed now. I'm so glad you enjoyed the videos and your support means a lot to me. This is one of the projects I'm most proud of because of the creative engineering that it required.

Question on the 36" steel rod, 1/8" interior diameter. Do you have a recommendation on where to get this? We have all the other parts :) We are getting close!

So happy you're actually going to make it!!! I bought the solid rods at home depot. The hollow tubes were harder to find though. I ended up getting them on Ebay, and unfortunately the seller is not active anymore. But this was the name of the product I bought: " Round Tubing 304 Stainless Steel 3/16" OD x 6 ft. Welded 0.148" Inside Dia." I hope that helps!

Not to this stage at all yet, but what size drill bits did you use for these steps?

is there any chance you would sell this one?

There's a chance, although the project was a lot of work so I guess the offer would have to be pretty convincing. Thanks so much for your interest in this staff!

No, the project is a bit too large for me to take on repeatedly, but hopefully these tutorials can help you try it yourself! Thanks so much for the interest though!
