They took decade for Cgi and wrote script on the set.

don’t forget they also really needed time to innovate underwater filming tech

@Timothy Jarrett that's all great but the script and editing needed to be sharper, its like Cameron refused to make even slight changes to age old story, the movie could've easily been half hour trimmed with a better story with same characters. When story isn't sharp audiences start to feel weight of those 3d glasses, I felt it certainly.

There’s absolutely no excuse for why this movie didn’t come out in 2012. CGI looks just like it did in the first film.

Very disappointed. Full of awesome CGI while the story is really lame. Awesome visual effects for the eyes, untouching to the hearts.
