Hats off to your research sir and a very interesting video. I have seen people from Sri Lanka tamils and even down south criticising the Madras Language. But you made it very clear and explained it so nice 👌🏻 And truly said for anything to survive, it has to adapt to the changes. That's what the Madras slang did. And Madrasians definitely know the original word for these foreign words and mostly use these for convenience or for fun or only at places necessary.

Beauty is that in those days even rickshaw walas spoke english better than tamil. No match for our chennai previously madras. In general all south Indians were called by the name madarasis. Great golden period. Thank you for a lovely video.

Brahmins dialect may seem different but it is one of the purest forms of Thamizh....the fact that it sounds odd is because today's Thamizh is adulterated in many ways...Brahmins don't speak different thamizh its just the rest speak the Adulterated version of Thamizh....

கோடம்பாக்கம்- ஆற்காடு நவாபுகள் அங்கே "கோடா" = குதிரைகள் லாயம் அமைத்திருந்தார்கள், அதான் இந்த பெயர். OC என்ரால் "ஆன் கர்ட்டிசி" என்று பொருள். மதராஸ் பாஷை - ஒர் ரபா = ஒரு ரூபா

Sri Sriram, what a delightful presentation! Kudos! in 1999/2000 some IT wag created an uproariously funny Medraas Baashai version of commands provided in a (at least then) fictitious M B version of Windows 2000 ... ஜன்னல்கள் இரண்டாயிரம் by பில் கதவுகள். here are some of the commands from my memory ... open - தொர close - மூடு save - காப்பாத்து save as ... - இப்படீன்னு காப்பாத்து move - ஜகா வாங்கு cut - வெட்டு copy - காப்பி அடி paste - ஒட்டு paste special - நன்னா எச்ச தொட்டி ஒட்டு abort, retry, cancel? - நீ இப்போ இன்னா சொல்றே? access denied - கை வெச்சே, கீசிடுவேன் at this point, I more or less fainted from breathing difficulties! I am not able to find it online now. If any of you find it, please share the link here.

During British period majority of the labourers migrated from North Arcot District under nawab, Still we could see such slang in Vellore region Body guard muneswaren statue was brought by North Arcot District people, it was considered as ஊர் எல்லை for North Madras in British time

Yes, this slang or lingo is only akin to a particular place/area and v interesting to know how it evolved. There are few more keep in a cupboard … put in the bureau… or Alamaari (Portuguese origin), for kitchen they would say cuisini(cuisines) of foreigners. Like a local metropolitan lingo concoction.

Kakoos is from Dutch, apparently, not Portugese. The Dutch word is Kaakhuis.

kaasu = cash How come we didn't see this relation for such a long time? English has borrowed a lot of Tamil words but a word as ubiquitous as cash derived from Tamil? That is something. Thank you Mr. Sriram.
