Dear Uncle D. Thank you very much for this video ( a song I recommended somewhere, I think). You're absolutely right, a very deep, very real song. This version isn't the most melodic, lyrical, but it's the truest, the one he sang in his last years, and all the more gripping to the heart. It's one of the greatest and most beautiful classics of French chanson. Thank you for your interest. Yes, you pronounced his name correctly, Léo Ferré. And your French is much better than you sometimes seem to think. ^_^ Thank you very much.

Hello Uncle D, 🌴🌞 He was one of my dear late mom's favorite singers (a true poet), and it was also her favorite song. Yes, this song can make you shed tears when you've lost someone close, no doubt. Did I do it? …No comment. We hold on tightly to things that, inevitably, we end up forgetting. That's the ultimate paradox of our existence, captured and so magnificently put into poetry by one of our greatest contemporary poets. And yes, Frenchmen are definitively fatalists. 😊 Peace, folks. ☮👈😎

Léo Ferré another classic French singer . He he proclaimed to be an anarchist and this school of thought greatly inspires his work." Pauvre" can be translated as someone who has little money but also as someone who is uneducated. a multitude of beautiful, thought-provoking songs. "C'est extra" , La solitude,

One of the most classic French song. It has been covered many times. One of my favorite is Dalida's one. The tragic side of the song suits her well. Even Céline Dion sang it live after the death of her husband. Concerning the meaning of "pauvre", it's used here as you would say : "Oh these poor people, I feel sad for them".

Great great singer ever ! About your question, pauvre is of course poor, but also simple people, humble people, little people, and ordinary is also a good translation, not in the way, without interest, but people without importance for the rich or intellectuals people A very deep song Good pronunciation for his name 👌

I said yes to your question It can be said "poor people", the translation is not always accurate. Votre français est très correct, your spoken French is very correct Leo Ferré is a great poet of the 60s and beyond that he is an irreplaceable legend who left his mark on the music of his poetry.

Thank you for this vidéo. I've been listening to Léo Ferré for a very long time and I have the opportunity to see him several times. The translation of his lyrics is not up to scratch. They are Indeed the words of pour people in the sense of simple people. And not the one to whom nothing and everything, but wind and jewels. One of Leo's most beautiful songs for me is " La mémoire et la mer".

In the context of the song, you could interpret "pauvre" as ordinary, because he seems to refer to random/regular people who are considered relatively poor or at least not particularly well-off as opposed to rich people who are usually held in higher esteem so to speak.

Leo Ferré by saying "pauvres gens" doesn't want to say "gens pauvres". So it doesn't refer only to poor people. In many situation in french, changing the order between adjectives and nouns can change a lot the interpretation.

It is certainly one of the most iconic French songs of all time. It reflects perfectly this feeling of "dead heart" or "the feeling of love lost forever" when you have sacrificed everything for someone, even your own dignity, and that person has abandoned you and left you alone in front of your own mirror. This song could be the logical continuation of Jacques Brel's song "Ne me quitte pas" ... There is a very beautiful and touching rendition of "Avec le temps" by Patricia Kaas and you can find it if you know where to look for it. Hint: I added English subtitles 😉.

"Poor People" can be translated as "ordinary" In this case. Anyway this guy was an outsider anarchist and his songs full of deep thoughs and had a few hits like this one.

Thx, maybe try, BARBARA, it's violent too, but more "made up", clever, some terrible truth and pain. In addition, she also had, on the piano, a mark of production which sublimated the depth of her texts, of her being, it was not always sad, but also of lightness and intelligence of heart, it seems to me.

“Pauvre” in French mean poor, penniless, deprived, but at the same time is used to designate people who are materially unfortunate, of course, but also spiritually, or emotionally, in misfortune, and is sometimes used with condescension. It is not uncommon in my region to hear old men and women say "ma pauve", "mon pauvre", like that in conversation, even when there is no question of misfortune. It's almost a term of endearment in this case.

Léo Ferré 30 years ago, Léo Ferré passed away. The singer left behind an immense, poetic body of work that has become a classic of French chanson. A singer-songwriter born in 1916, he was known for his freedom of speech, his lyricism and his melancholy. He was a self-proclaimed anarchist. poor and ordinary can be switched in this song, the meaning in this case being " people withour hope or vision, downtrodden or getting by " . Then again his verses weren't constrained or one-ended so I might be wrong !

To listen to poetry (sometimes even a little naughty) in song, there is Georges Brassens, however I am not sure if these songs have English subtitles. “Les Passantes” based on a poem by Antoine Pol. Just fabulous.

As a french, living in Sète, town of Georges Brassens "s birth, town who he"s buried, i kow all this songs, the most beutiful in my eyes is Supplique pour etre enterre sur la plage de Sète, meaning prayer to be buried on the Sète's beach, more or less but in Brassens poetry is a lot of lost in translation. The man was a genius !

"Les passantes" - A magnificent text full of truth but relatively difficult to translate into English because the rhymes are so important. For the naughty side, I subtitled the Sardou/Fabian duet song "Je vais t'aimer" which is enough to scandalize more than one puritan😅.
