How do you affect the lighting on the the real characters who were shot on other lighthing? Do you build a 3d model of the character to match the lighting?

i think it depends if they changed the CG set or not. If the lighting changes drastically it seems they using digital double. If not it just simple color correction. CMIIW

Everything is planed before the production/filming. They won't just film, then send to Weta e tell them: "Ok bitch3s, now put the VFX" - at least I think. So they have all the script, concept art, previz, then something like a "digital location scouting" (we could call it look dev) and, they reach a consensus of how things should be in the final result. So, they light the real scene (on the set) as planned and the post-production also follows the plan. By the way, the filming is made with supervising of the VFX Supervisor and director of photography too, probably using some real-time technology to have a vision of how it will end up in post-production. I'm not sure if they used it in Infinity War, but the latest films are using it. We could say they work together, not every man for himself.
