I had side effect but I think they had more to do with my life long sugar addiction than anything else. I was seriously addicted to sugar having grown up in a family where sugar was a part of nearly everything we ate. We drank sodas, sweet tea, and gallons of Kool-Aid loaded with multiple cups of sugar per gallon. Both my mom and dad cooked and baked a lot so there was no shortage of sweets at any time. I was never fat but my health began to turn for the worse after I turned 50 (currently 63). Since beginning Keto about three weeks ago I no longer eat or have cravings for sugar. My diet consists of tons of vegetables, moderate fats and protein, and low carbs. I eat one sometimes two meals per day then fast for at least 18 hours before the next cycle of meals. I only drink lemon water, tea, and coffee all unsweetened and I DON'T SNACK. My health has improved greatly since I started and I have no problems sticking to the diet because I no longer have cravings for anything sweet. My goal was not so much to lose weight (even though I have), but to wean myself from sugar which I did. Dr. Berg promotes a "Healthy" Keto diet which implies there may be unhealthy Keto diets promoted by others. So even though the diet works for me, I do understand why many people have concerns. However, I think if people use a common sense approach, learn all they can about Keto, do what works for them and not just blindly follow all the gurus out there, they'll be just fine.

THANK YOU!!! You are the first one to acknowledge that veggies help with only NEW diarrhea or constipation. Many of us begin keto already with IBS, and the worsened constipation is a real issue that no one is addressing. I've tried everything, and finally chia seeds are giving me some hope. Dr. Berg pays attention!

nice to see the classic whiteboard and krrrik kriiiks from the marker pens again Dr Berg!! your cartoon drawings have improved too! Here are the excerpts: Here are the symptoms and remedies for common keto side effects. 1. Brain fog - This could be a vitamin B1 deficiency or low ketones-use nutritional yeast and MCT oil. 2. Gout/high uric acid - Take a green drink, like wheatgrass juice or other leafy green vegetable juice. This will regulate your pH. 3. High cholesterol - This means you need more bile salts to break down cholesterol. 4. Kidney stones - This could be not enough water or potassium citrate. 2 liters of water a day is ideal. Also, avoid high-oxalate foods, like almonds, spinach, and chocolate. 5. Digestion issues - Adjust vegetable intake (could be too much or not enough), take bile salts, avoid lectins, and take betaine hydrochloride or apple cider vinegar. 6. Acne - Avoid dairy products. 7. Palpitations & muscle cramps - Increase magnesium, potassium, and sea salt. 8. Irritability - Use vitamin B1. 9. Gallbladder pain - Avoid nuts and peanut butter. 10. Bad breath - Increase leafy greens and lower protein. 11. Rash - Increase B vitamins (nutritional yeast). 12. Fatigue or keto flu - Sea salt and potassium. 13. Sleeplessness - Increase calcium (calcium citrate or calcium lactate) and sea salt.

I've been doing the keto diet and IF for more than a month and things were great. Then I started feeling tired, fatigued, irritable and having brain fog so I started taking Vit B1, Potassium, Magnesium, and sea salt. Thins were great again for a week but now it is worse. I stopped IF as I thought I wasn't getting enough calories but still keep the diet and take the supplements mentioned before but I still experience these side effects...

Linda Leo: No. I didn’t get paid. He almost never mentions his product line and it took me awhile to discover them. I kept running down to a health food store but couldn’t find anything that looked trustworthy. Then I finally watched one video where he mentions his wheatgrass juice powder and it was like a Eureka moment. I just wanted to give others the shortcut realization that, “Oh, hey, he sells some of these things.” Plus I trust his products more than some unknown company.

The constipation on keto is real. I’ve experimented with no vegetables and some. But I find that’s it’s always best to eat some vegetables (in moderation). This is because they contain magnesium and potassium. Magnesium is responsible for relaxing the end of colon so stool can pass and potassium will help the colon muscles contract (among the many wonderful benefits of these minerals).

Good to see all the keto side effects rolled into a single video ! I’ve been on keto for about 7 months with good results but recently have been having episodes of fatigue and light headiness especially before my OMAD. I guess this means I’m salt/potassium deficient ? If I increase my pink sea salt intake should this take care of this problem or do I need to add electrolyte powder also for the potassium ?

@@antoine_richer No it's not. It will raise blood sugar fast but has tiny nutrients value. Even the potassium has disappeared because of the processing the potatoes had to go through. If one needs potassium, it's far better to get it from avocados or big salads or Dr Berg's electrolytes formula. If one wants to raise blood sugar, eat eggs for example. Check Dr Berg's videos on these subjects.

Dr. Berg, The knowledge you have given me to turn my body around is priceless! Thank you very much! I do have one question.... I'm almost certain my current plateau is caused by insulin resistance. I drink a sucralose energy drink once a day. I originally switched to this because of the zero calories but have since learned that the sucralose is spiking my insulin. Besides black coffee, any other tips for getting a caffeine boost in the morning? I say that because my taste buds really can't stand black coffee. Thanks for everything!!

Consume Broccoli sprouts, avoid ALL soy products and dairy (highly estrogenic and contain growth factors), lower carbs and avoid ALL processed food. NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine), Sauna, intermittent fasting, cold therapy (cryo or ice baths/showers). Look into thermography as opposed to mammography. Thermography can be done regularly and can track "hot-spots" as your loved one makes lifestyle changes. It is CRITICAL to reduce bad estrogens, both in the diet and on the skin/body. Research raw ginger - very effective in preventing and reversing reproductive cancers (both males and females). HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy), coffee enemas, liver detox protocols (lots of resources on Berg and others), Milk Thistle, Dandelion root, medicinal mushrooms. Useful resources: Dr. Rhonda Patrick, Dr. Mercola. Calcium D-Glucarate and DIM, Iodine (Sea kelp), Sauna and Infrared therapy. Bentonite clay. Breast massage with coconut oil. Systemic (proteolytic) enzymes. Research these for starters. Many blessings to you ;0)

One of the biggest side effect is not mentioned in the video, it's not that I cannot fall asleep (at 9:30pm I sleep quickly), it's more the spike in cortisol at around 5:30am, sometimes before that wakes me up, and have no choice but get up. The cortisol keeps me awake days after days but I no longer have the deep restful sleep I used to have before, this sensation of feeling so great when you wake up. Nonetheless I had very good sleep on Keto last month only one or 2 times, can't explain why. That was the days I ate 200g of salmon the diner before. If I knew how to limit this cortisol .... I do IF, Healthy Keto, 25yo and have a had a fast metabolism already.

Thank you for your awesome videos! So I have a question that isn’t directly related to this video, but relates to intermittent fasting and healthy keto. How do you handle social situations when following these principles (like a friend, acquaintance or family member making you lunch/dinner that isn’t healthy keto)? What is proper etiquette? Bring my own canned sardines (which may be silly)? Tell them you are on a diet but still take a bite or two to be nice? Eat beforehand then sit with an empty plate at the table while everyone else eats? I’m probably overthinking- I just don’t want to be rude to the person who put in the effort to make a meal!
@rawwoodgifts8117
@rawwoodgifts8117 3 жыл бұрын
It's an absolutely valid set of questions! He has a video on this. I think if one is starting with keto or is dealing with a bad health situation, I think one could tell the person making the meal that one's doctor has advised against a specific set of foods. Tell it in advance. And tell her what foods is allowed.

Dear Dr. Berg, Can you do a video detailing how the body goes in and out of ketosis? (If you haven't already) I have several questions. I am unclear as to once you go into ketosis if all it takes is one or two carbs to knock you completely out and then your body has to do a complete 24-48 hour reset or whether you can dip in and out of ketosis on limited carbs at some point. Also, I'm unclear wether the body starts producing ketones at 16, 18 or 20+ hours prior to achieving true ketosis and if it does to any degree that one can be benefiting from those ketones. Forgive me if you made this video already I've searched yours but not found any (so many videos!) that covered these. Thank you.

Hi Dr Berg, I m new to keto and have been strongly recommended to watch your videos which are described as powerful and knowledgeable ! As I just started to follow your Keto practice videos accordingly, I am having a sydrome which is not included in the list of this video and wonder if you can help. After I have started for 2 weeks, my voice cord (glottis) seems to have “clogging” effect that it feels like the voice cord is very very dry (I drink a lot of water) and hard to say something out without making greater effort. Another confusion that keto is mainly about no carb no sugar right? Why would a person have such kind of side effects as stated in your list in the video when a person without carb and sugar only? Are there a lot of hidden nutrients or “materials” in the carb and sugar that a person would suffer from deficiency of such kind materials when he cut off all carb and sugar?
