There is a reason professional versions of these are so expensive, they are complicated machines that need to be made with excellent tolerances. This vevor does not have a motor/magnet interlock making it dangerous and has poor spindle tolerances making the cutters wobble. and the gibs/ways for the vertical movement are also poor so it moves at an angle.

I bought one of these units and gotta say there maybe some validity to your critique I’m quite happy with my purchase. Because it still does its job while not breaking the bank I’ve heard plenty of guys claiming you should only buy top end or a used top end Yet they don’t have many tools (see it all the time in the trades) For guys that do a wide range of things it’s not about the highest quality it’s all about having enough tools to do the job and do it well

I bought this exact one and it’s AMAZING. We are building a metal shop with 12 gauge beams and we used this drill to cut holes in our 3/8” angles to connect the beams. Cuts straight holes and like butter! Get it and you won’t regret it!

I have no particular issues with mine, it’s the perfect harbor freight quality tool, it serves the purpose for low volume work that doesn’t require high reliability and precision.

It seems to be if you are an occasional use homegamer a Vevor or Amazon one is fine. I think his was made on a Monday morning. I haven't heard of anyone else having the drill lift up becase the cutter is so wobbly. If you are a serious home workshop type that uses it often, the extra money for an Evolution might be a good idea. Using it every day professionally? Get a Milwaukee, Champion, Hougen, Jancy or one of the other pro grade models.

I have one and there is very little play in the arbor. My only complaint is they come with a limited amount of cutters. If you order additional cutters you have to buy an adapter for them to fit the drill. Not a really big deal but Vevor fails to mention that. @@1978garfield

At 10% of the price of a professional magnetic drill if this thing will drill a hole in 1-in plate then it is worth it... if they don't claim to be a professional magnetic drill so if you don't have $3200 to buy a decent setup and you only need to make a couple of holes this will do it that's really the point of cheap Chinese crap

I agree . Comparing this to a high end unit shows it’s down falls but as a home hobby non production need it fits the bill. I have the same model and have drilled around 50 holes with no problem. I wish he would have drilled a hole to see it in action instead of just repeating over and over what he doesn’t like about it.

Hello again Catus Maximus and Tiny Thank you for another Great Video 👍 Question for you, I 'm not trying to be smart here. But what do use this drill for? Again thank you 😊
@timcope3115

It is a cheap drill for non precise drilling. It is about 1/8 the cost of the ones you are comparing it to. For folks just wanting to drill a hole in farm machinery it will suffice for most jobs. Yes, it would be nice if it had more safety features for the millennials that have to be taken by the hand and told a stove with the light on may be hot. But for the ones raised in the era using a 3/4" electric drill and knew damn well if you didn't pay attention if it grabbed it was at least going to run you around in a circle or worst case break an arm or maybe more to it wrapped up the cord and unplugged it. You can only make things fool proof, but you can't make them damn fool proof.

You know what, if you're just going to drill a few holes in thick steel in a controlled enviornment that might be alright if you understand the tool and its limitations. But if you're only going to use it for a few cuts then you're a novice and you probably DON'T know. This is a tool that can put you in the hospital in a hurry if you don't use it right or you mess up, if that thing looses magnetism and falls on your head, you won't be laughing, if the cutter cuts at too much of an angle, lifts the magnet off the steel then it will break the cutter, come loose and might just smack you in the face on the way to the ground. And hey, If you're a boomer laughing at Millenials just remember it was your generation that sold out the working man to China for a quick buck, so don't get too frisky.

@@elliotkane4443 You do realize it has a safety strap to secure it in case the magnet become deenergized? Of course you don't, you probably have never been around one.

There wasn't any criticism in any of the others. I've got criticisms about my Milwaukee mag drill even though I'm mostly very pleased with it. No criticism at all usually means that somebody's either not being honest or they don't know enough about it to have criticisms. All mag drills have rubout, but this one does seem particularly bad. I use my mag drill a decent amount and wouldn't want to deal with any more runout than I have to because of the stress it puts on the tooling.

Mag drills are cool, but the expense is cost prohibitive when you consider the price of the tooling.

I have the same drill. You didn't fully seat the cutter into the collet. If you would've fully seated the cutter, it would have much less runout.

I have an old school Black & Decker Mag Drill (from the early 70's when you could actually still find B&D stuff in pro garages). It is 100 pounds. Mercifully the drill and post come off of the magnet. You just need a mallet or soft metal hammer to turn a collar. I doubt any of the modern Black+Decker manuals show someone wailing on their product with a hammer. I can understand why you would want to. Being from a time that predates safety you can run the drill without the magnet turned on. Hell, you can run it without the magnet attached if you want. I don't know when pro mag drills came out with the lockout that keeps the drill from running unless the magnet is on. It is a good idea nut not somthing they have always had.

I like drilling off at an angle. They make special offset bolts for that or you can use a u-bolt on the deeper ones. I wish Vevor would sell those too. I've purchased alot of things for Vevor. All of them are a good value. Why pay 2000 dollars for a mag drill that will be wrecked the first time the power goes out while it is hanging upside down and explodes on the floor like humpty dumpty.

You might be a little overly critical. True, it's not a high end system with all the whistles and bells. For me though, it's perfect for the occasional and simple job. It doesn't make any sense to spend 2 grand on a unit that is only used once or twice a year to drill a couple of holes in a steel post. It simply takes me out of a difficult situation. If it can handle 4 posts, I've more than doubled my money back. This might be one of those deals where you'd say, one man's trash is another man's treasure. So, until it ends up in my trash for the scrap metal guy, it's my treasure.

however much I respect the videos you produce and how informative they are I can't let misinformation go unrectified a lot of high-quality mag drills have runout watch at the 3:00 minute mark its actually worse than yours and it's a Hougen kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r712eMRjz9qxYGw.html that being said the missing safety features on this unit could be disastrous if it did slip and caught a piece of clothing or as you mentioned simply fell on you as far as the gibs go they just need a simple lapping

If I were seriously considering one of these, my requirements would be that it sticks to shit, and rotates the bit. I seriously wonder why, after all these decades of cheap Chinese tools people still have some expectation that they aren't going to be crap. Why the fuck would I be surprised that a $300 amazon special isn't the same as a "professional unit". I work in a shop full of "professionals" and some of them are as dull as Chinese tools.
