I asked ChatGPT about it Both phrases, "speaking as a native speaker" and "speaking like a native speaker," can be used, but they convey slightly different meanings. - "Speaking as a native speaker" implies that the person speaking is, in fact, a native speaker of the language being referred to. It suggests that the speaker has the authority and perspective of a native speaker. - On the other hand, "speaking like a native speaker" suggests that the speaker is speaking in a manner that closely resembles or imitates the fluency and proficiency of a native speaker, even if they may not be one themselves. So, the choice between the two phrases depends on whether you want to emphasize your status as a native speaker ("speaking as a native speaker") or your ability to mimic native speaker proficiency ("speaking like a native speaker").

And yet, in the context Marina tried to use it, it definitely IS wrong to say "as a native speaker".

I can only assume that the problem is that these guys do not have any professional linguistic education, except for some certificates of attending language courses for six months to a year. Although half a year is enough to master any language if you really want to. But I guess they think that the fact that they live in the US proves they can be relied upon and therefore fall prey to the false confidence effect (Dunning-Kruger effect). And finally, they don't work on their mistakes. They keep repeating them. Which is really weird. Or do they do it on purpose?

Hello, guys! I have just checked "as" and "like" using the Cambridge dictionary and it says the following: "As and like are prepositions or conjunctions. The prepositions as and like have different meanings. As + noun means ‘in the role of’, like + noun means ‘similar to’ or ‘in the same way as’." So, "as" is really used for saying "in the same way as" or it's also correct to use "like" in that case? 🤔

Both "as a native speaker" and "like a native speaker" can be correct, depending on the context in which they are used. "As a native speaker": This phrase is used when someone is referring to their own ability or proficiency in a particular language, indicating that they possess the skills and fluency of a native speaker. For example, "I can speak English as a native speaker." "Like a native speaker": This phrase is used when someone is comparing their language skills or trying to emulate the fluency and naturalness of a native speaker, even if they are not a native speaker themselves. It suggests that they are trying to speak in a way that closely resembles a native speaker. For example, "She speaks French like a native speaker." So, if you are referring to your own language ability, you would generally use "as a native speaker." If you are describing someone else's language skills or comparing your own skills to that of a native speaker, you would use "like a native speaker."
