Don't forget another very important concern: doctor shortages! I have friends who cannot get connected with a family doctor. (And don't get me started about the hospital.) As for the 401/North Front interchange, the Quinte Mall opened in 1971. That, and the development of Bell Blvd. increased the traffic greatly, and it's gotten worse since. I remember when it was much quieter in that area (when the shopping was mainly all downtown).

Let's not forget Eric, the LACK of family doctors. You either have to be refugees or immigrants to be eligible for a doctor. I have lived here my whole life and been without a family doctor for 7 years now. I could have cancer and be dying and never given a chance .

You noticed some things that are also on my list ... before I mention the worst thing, I have to say that Belleville has really great restaurants especially BOATHOUSE, LINGUINE'S, DINKELS, and I want to add BIrdies but it's just not consistently good. This is what I discovered so far in 3 years....oh and also, Belleville has 7 thrift stores...that's wild for a thrift junky like me! Now for the bad news...the homeless situation...of course it's bad everywhere but downtown nearly died because of this problem. Businesses destroyed, people terrorized by threats from bad mouthed addicts, many vacant buildings because no one wants to deal with it, needles and garbage left everywhere, addicts cooking their drugs in the open, defecating on private property, setting up camps anywhere they can and refusing to move on when politely asked to vacate your property. If you choose to live downtown, you will be forced to deal with this stuff... regularly. Consider this a warning cuz the new condo complexes they are building will not tell you about the negatives and it IS a game changer. Downtown is right on the water... absolutely beautiful but often not enjoyable. This is not a political comment, it's facts I've seen and lived through which affects my opinion of Belleville. Belleville's saving grace is that it's right beside THE COUNTY!!! What a beautiful place to explore for 3/4 of the year.

The city is a dump...but I do miss my friends and family there. I moved to Kingston in Sept away from Belleville. By far the worst thing about it are the alcoholics and thieves. That's why I left.

Yes, the lights at Sidney Street and College Street West are annoying. To correct you though, the northbound and southbound traffic do run independently but the eastbound & westbound traffic runs at the same time.

The downtown is gradually moving forward. Over the past year two fancy cookies/sweets stores have opened on Front, two new coffee/treat/sandwich places on Pinnacle, and three places to hear live music (Myer's Creek pub, 116 Bistro, and a new spot just south of the Empire). New over the last few years are the Lark wine bar, Small Scale bakery, and the Brake Room.

Belleville basically is a base to drive anywhere else to “do” something. Overpriced retirement community with large addictions issues do to “services” offered, they ship them in from outside areas. Buy in Stirling, Frankford, Trenton etc not Belleville

They keep increasing the price of bag tags in Belleville. Recycle will not take alot of plastics from frozen food dishes in Belleville, so you have to add to garbage use bag tags to get rid of them. Many surrounding rural areas have less services, no water, no street lights, no sewers, no fire hydrants, no battery pickup day etc. So that could explain lower taxes. NO costco here is crazy. #7 You forgot to mention slow internet in some areas of Belleville and surrounding areas

#7 ....and probably the worst reason not to move to belleville.... 1/5 people here are a tweaker, drunk or thief. there's a pretty wild amount of crackhead antics going on every night for such a small town. good luck trying to own a bike in belleville. a bike thief will bolt cutter your chain inside the first week for sure. it's so bad that if you yell "HEY THATS MY BIKE" at people with bikes here you'll get some hilarious reactions.

Why don't you give us the real story of belleville. I'm not worried about a Costco. I give zero sh*ts about traffic lights or how "nice" downtown looks. How about you talk about the homeless? Or maybe the drug epidemic. The countless domestics. No housing. Police corruption. In a town with only 60 000 ppl houses shouldnt cost 1 million. Landlords shouldn't rent out a room for 1000 a month. It's such a shame what the privileged are upset about.
