I moved from CT to Southern SC and I'll take 90 over 10 any day lol. Also VERY little cloudy and rainy days are a massive improvement over the NE area, that can see rain for days sometimes.

I grew up in the Charleston area in the 70s & 80s. The traffic has absolutely EXPLODED.

Yeah, it's definitely grown exponentially since then! Though I can't think of anywhere that hasn't gotten more congested in the last 40 years.

I have been here 10 years. I wish my husband woukd have told me about the traffic. I have never lived in a city of this size and population that only has ONE HIGHWAY! I understand one of the reasons is because it's on a peninsula. And for Charleston to be such a huge tourist destination, shopping and entertainment sucks here. No real mall. No zoo, waterpark, or amusement park. Music artist don't come here for concerts. And when they do, it's a week night. Parking downtown and at the beaches is the worst. But being just a few hours from ATL, Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Jacksonville, Orlando and Savannah means that zoos, shopping, concerts, and such are not too far away.

As a native, because im used to the pollen, heat and bugs... What I'm not used to is the traffic. Ive been to major cities that developed their infrastructure to handle the amount of people/ tourists. Thats basically impossible here so if you dont work from home, i wouldn't dare live in Summerville/ Goose Creek and work mt pleasant/ west ashley. Used to take 25 min, now over an hour +. Live next to where you work which could be very expensive. If you're a bartender, server... good luck. You won't be able to afford where you make "decent money" so you'll essentially be sitting in a ton of traffic. Really that goes for anyone.

Yep, I have to say that I agree with you. Though, I do know some high-end restaurant servers who make a good living and only live maybe 15-20 mins from work (for example work downtown and live on James Island, or live and work in Mt Pleasant). It just really depends on your living situation, like if you're single and want to live alone vs. a dual-income household or roommates or living with family. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your local perspective!

@@LifeinCharlestonSouthCarolina Well, I'll piggy back off your comment and say that Charleston is becoming a modern day St Thomas VI. So if you have problems and are looking to escape to meet new people or saw this city on southern charm and need roommates and shit... 95% you'll move back to wherever you're from.

@@certifiedUFOpilot I've never even seen Southern Charm, haha! But yeah, that will always be the case if you're running from problems and looking for an escape, no matter where it is. Thanks for watching!

I relocated from the Chicago suburbs to the Tricounty region in July 1986 a year after vacationing the prior Spring. I was absolutely shocked at the heat and humidity which took me around 4 years to acclimate to the weather. Your video is 💯accurate information for anyone thinking about relocating to this area. Kudos for giving out accurate information. Several of my neighbors and I share a pond in our backyard and we do have an alligator that we have affectionately named “Wallie”.

Same can be said of Savannah, GA. Moved from NJ You n 1994, but left 15 years ago. The traffic is brutal. The noise downtown is brutal. The humidity and bugs are brutal. The smell of the paper mill might still be brutal.

Yeah, most of what I go over in this video could apply to many parts of the southeast! Our paper mill recently shut down here.

My son was stationed in Goose Creek. They had short, well-fed alligators on grounds. Personnel had a tendency to feed them. Regarding humidity, he said he would get tired of working on his vehicle and having to stop to wring the sweat out of his shirt. It doesn't take long to get soaked in humidity, if you are active outside. He loved Charleston, particularly all the restaurants with great, local food, but he was more than ready to leave when it was time to go.

i really wanted to love this place. i stayed for a week and was honestly very disappointed. very big homeless problem, and definitely wouldn’t feel safe walking the streets at night. some parts are run down, dirty, and if you make one wrong turn you’ll end up in a bad area. outside of king street and the battery it feels like ur average poor neighborhood. the history is interesting, and its nice to be close to beaches, but definitely not enough for me to come back

Hello, I'm very sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your time here. Like any city, you do need to be more aware and mindful of certain streets/areas. The battery is filled with historic, multi-million dollar homes, so I am surprised to hear that it gave off the impression it did. Downtown is very different than the other areas, so hopefully you were able to explore other parts as well. Thanks for watching!
