I currently live in Herndon, VA, I also lived in Reston, VA for 12 years. I agree with everything you are saying in this video. It's very safe and a beautiful place to raise young children. My single household income is much less than the median income and trust me I feel the burn of tolls, property tax, rent and everything else. Over the years I wondering how much longer i'll be able to stay in this area.

12:17 - The reason is that The National Capital Region is where the Northern Hardwood Forest and the Southern Hardwood Forest overlap, meaning if you're used to the one kind of pollen you are probably not used to the other. This is also why driving is so treacherout - a mix of Northern and Southern drivers...

I lived in Falls Church from 2000 to 2005. My favorite place I've lived and I'm 55. Its an awesome area if you can afford it. I really miss Falls Church. Another pro not mentioned is you can have a cheap, but very nice, weekend home in WV that is only 2 hours away.

I like North Fairfax County ; Schools, church and food and variety. Now ; the neighbor is starting to have Young families come back, I lived from 1971-2020 now Live in Prince William County.

Con: Taxes! Vehicle, Home, State Income Tax and of course it trickles down to the consumer too from the businesses.

I grew up there (60s, 70s, and 80s) and left in the late 90s because it now sux. Here's why: massive crowds in an area built for much smaller population; big government--they tax you to death; annual safety and emissions tests; diversity? Try impersonal, robotic, me-first behavior; unless you're rich, get used to living in a shoebox for which you'll pay a quarter mil; traffic, traffic, traffic--always and forever; yes, you can get around on the metro, despite crappy lot parking and early shutdown times, but get ready to fork over big dollars for each ride. Yeah, it used to be a great place to live....

Cons: HOAs, Taxes, HOA culture, Bad drivers, Car Taxes, Police presence (this has been much better in the last 10yrs) and old outdated Commonwealth laws /practices, Business Property Taxes, and cost of housing (correction to this video single garages are more like (700+ w/ a single garage 2022+); A big one is also 90% of neighbors are amazing but the other 10% are horrible neighbors that will attempt 'report' you to the county to put your business in jeopardy if you're 2inches too far back in street parking (the nextdoor Karens are disgusting)

Very useful information! My husband and I are hopefully moving to VA this year for a potential job opportunity in DC and we’re so concerned for our children who are in school and finding somewhere they would be happy, we are a Hispanic family from California so diversity is key

Fairfax county and prince William county have hundreds of thousands of Hispanic families . Also some of the most diverse country’s in the country in general

Having lived in Atlanta and Fairfax County, Atlanta is far worse. Dumb people live in Atlanta, thus more accidents, thus more traffic.

Just too many people living in the area with crazy home prices and rents...why don't Federal Agencies and other big tech companies move some of their operations out of the NOVA area ? it all about quality of life

One of the worst things about Fairfax County is the employment there, esp. with working for the county gov't and having to deal with abusive supervisors who will yell and talk down to you and sometimes will want to push you out wanting you to fail as they can really micromanage the hell out of you as well as give you meaningless reassignments.

Diversity is not good as it sounds.. as the Asians all do they own thing together and the Indians all do their own thing, Hispanics do their own thing etc ....many of these diverse people don't like football , baseball etc
