I've done many classes at other places and it seems that about 25-30% of the new people will have their gun go down, with another 25-30% of those having some kind of day-ending breakage. Fortunately, I bring a full tool kit, extra parts, and extra guns. Classes with people I know to have experience doing classes almost never have equipment problems. They're dialed in. Key lessons for gun class: 1) Running your equipment hard in class will reveal deficiencies. 2) Always, always take 2 or more guns. 3) Make sure you're not taking crappy guns to class. 4) Make sure ALL the guns you take to class are sighted in BEFORE you get there. 5) Take a cleaning kit, bore snake, cleaning rod, and lube. 6) Mags and ammo. Take lots of both. Show up with your mags already loaded. 7) Don't forget the other stuff: appropriate clothing, water, snackies, sunscreen, and a camp chair. 8) If you're going to take pictures, realize there are some of us there that don't want to be photographed, much less be on the internet with our guns. Call it paranoia. Bonus lesson: take your Taurus, modified Glock, or cheap AR-15. Throw it in a lake. Don't take them to class. That crap never runs right. I've seen it time and time again.

Depends on the mission. If you're just using the the firearms to protect your home and family, you dont need all that expensive doohickey crap. Its not going to make you any more proficient and is a giant waste of money. The biggest investment you can make is simply range time and ammo to know how to put lead on target. A $1000 optic and $400 light is just way overkill. Additionally, I think some gun gurus overthink a lot of this stuff. There's nothing wrong with O-Lights if you take care of them and don't abuse them like any other tool. Its literally just a flashlight. You do not need to spend $200-300-400 for a freaking flashlight its not a NASA level tool of major complication. Now if you're looking to get your GI Joe on and bug out and live off the land and escape the Russian invasion like Red Dawn then yes you probably want to invest more money into higher-end accessories -- but for 99% of the population that scenario is neither probable or practical and they simply need a solution to put holes in a burglar in the kitchen at 3am. A $500 setup is going to do that just as well as a $3500 setup.

I've run Streamlights, Cloud Defensives, and Olights out of curiosity. The switches on my HLXs, three of them, have all died, but the clicky buttons work great. The Olights are somehow fine, the Javelot is weirdly brighter than my Rein 1.0 and 2.0 lights, but their mounts are just garbage. They're perfectly fine for indoor use, I haven't run them particularly hard. The Clouds are absolute tanks all around though- no regrets about those purchases even with how god awfully expensive WMLs can be and plus, they're an Indiana company. Gotta support the homestate.

The takeaway I get from these types of video's is don't buy into the latest hype, and simple and rugged tends to stay that way longer than not. And I love at the beginning when he said everything breaks, so Very true. For the life of me I just don't understand the desire for cheap sights whether they're optic or 'irons'. Sights like the plastic backup sights by (Any Company Name Here) are just a big NO for me. My two favorites for flip ups / back ups have been Midwest Industries and A.R.M.S. , and for QR optic mounts I really like LaRue Tactical.

in fairness to the Olight, if you don't lock the light or the tape switch cap, they will fall off. If you have people who can't even mount optics/back up sights on their gun right, it's not a stretch to imagine they would not know/think to secure their light. I have had Surefire scout light pressure pads come loose at the light just under recoil. It's actually pretty common and people just suggest spending another $100-200 on aftermarket stuff to fix it.. Same for Streamlights. The HL-X with the plugable pressure pad is TRASH.
