Avoiding wall walking & furniture walking is an important detail when it comes to improving your walking! This might be a topic or a phrase that you've heard of before, or maybe this is your first time hearing it, but wall walking and/or furniture walking is very common in the PT world. So today, I'm going to break down why this wall walking is happening, why it's not ideal, and a few different strategies on how to avoid it!

I walk and furniture walk in my home. Recently I have started to use a cane when I feel dizzy. I mostly use a mobility scooter when I go out except on good days. I don't have MS, but ME/CFS, but I find a lot of your advice is helpful with my issues. Thank you! If you know anyone who treats my condition as a physical therapist, please encourage them to make videos. It would be so nice to have someone who really understands the complications of ME/CFS and Long Covid who encourages using aids to make life more bearable.

If you wonder weather you furniture hop or wall walk. Look at your door trim. If you see hand prints and grease marks. You wall walk. I didn't realize how bad I was till I was scrubbing the paint. I have been getting out of the habit. My trim looks better.😃

Have had MS for years, 73 now, so wall /furniture walking so I didn't use my cane in home. Outside I always used my cane only I think. Now since knee surgery and put in nursing home for rehab for 2 months. Walked in but couldn't walk out. Now learning to walk again with walker. Enjoy your videos and got your book. You are helping me so much especially since insurance has delayed continuing my PT.

I have done that for at least the past 10 years maybe 15 I diagnosed myself 21 years ago. My balance has been bad for a very long time. Numbness and tingling where first symptoms. I did fall during 20/20 due to balance and my arm never healed properly. Now I am even worse than before my break.

I wall walk when I reach the top corner of my street and see the pavement going unevenly towards the right. I tell myself every time that I should ignore that it is uneven and try to walk away from the wall but my timidity gets the better of me. I also fence walk at a corner if I have been descending down my street - I don't seem to fence walk the same corner as often if ascending. This tells me that it is insecurity with my balance and to try the exercises mentioned in my home.
