3 hours from your car. It's midnight. 6 hours and the sun comes up. It totally AMAZES me how people never think the sensible option. Chill here for a few hours and pretty soon I'll be able to see. I'll see the track and the chances of breaking my legs is far less.

Even just a big a** arrow, pointing to where you are. Takes less energy to make a large, visible arrow. I was thinking the same thing when I watched the dude that got lost in western Australia trying to find gold, too. He also saw multiple planes and they actually were searching for him so putting anything recognizably man made, large enough to see from the air, raises chances of being found by a huge amount.

I went out on a very short hike about 10 years ago, it was supposed to last about 45 minutes. it turned out to last about 2 hours, and really drained me. I was rehabbing, and half the time used a four wheeled walker with a seat! The ladies retreat I was attending talked me into going on this "easy hike"--which turned out to be very challenging for me. I hydrated well the day before, and that day before I left. Making sure I drank 16 ounces of water before I left for the hike. Then I took 16.9 ounces of water with me on the hike in my back pack, along with a first aide kit, small blanket and flashlight and fire starting kit--just in case--since we were starting out after 2pm. WE did not get back to the lodge until after 4:30pm easy, and I was totally exhausted and out of water. I wished I had taken about 3 bottles of water. My legs cramped and I had had to sit down and rest for 45 minutes before continuing the hike. I felt pretty foolish. I have NEVER done that again! I stick to city sidewalks and areas that can accommodate my walker, and I always have about 64 ounces of water with me in my large insulated thermos--with ice. I carry another bottle of water just in case. I would rather bring home water than run out. Lesson learned.

@ambidextrousshooter6463 Signaling mirrors are included in miltary survival kits. They come with built-in "aiming system" which is basically just a see through area at their center because if they're aimed correctly, they can definetely be effective at getting the attention of low flying aircraft...especially if the aircraft is already looking for survivors. It's a lot better than no signaling device. And he was specifically talking about the guy in this video who already had a mirror...not someone magically pulling a mirror out of their ass.
