Her new song, "Head Above Water" has been posted on a CFS/ME group I belong to and that's what brought me here. Beautiful, powerful song. Lyme is so similar to CFS/ME, so I can relate to her struggles. Our problem is that most doctors don't believe in our illness so it's hard to get diagnosed and even then, can't get any follow up care. We don't have a cure and we also find ourselves being our own advocates . I'm glad someone finally took her seriously and she recovered. Wishing her all the best!

I have End stage Lymes because I was not diagnosed properly 25 years ago and now am suffering severely all these years. I was recently rebit and this time almost cost me my life. I went to the ER and passed out in the ER waiting room bathroom because my blood pressure was like 58/20 which was totally nonexistent! I almost checked out of this world . I was in a wheel chair and asked to lie down three times and was denied and then was crashing and losing bowel control and asked to go to restroom. They left me with no assistance where I passed out and broke my right ankle and tore up my left leg. I was in the hospital 10 days and inpatient rehabilitation hospital 12 days. I was gone for 22 days and still cannot walk

my aunt killed herself this year due to lyme disease... no one could help her, they just kept giving her ativan, and she became dependent on ativan, to the point when she tried to stop she went crazy. she shot herself in her garage with a shotgun and just writing this out again breaks my heart. trying to stop long term use of ativan can cause brain damage and other terrible withdrawal effects... i hope people do take lyme disease more seriously, even though it's tough to treat when you've passed that first section where you can be treated..

DarkR0ze notice how even being a famous millionaire didn´t spare her from being trated like a mental patient when instead she had an elusive organic disease, she suffered the same other people affected with Lyme, Mialgic Encephalomielitys, Fibromyalgya, etc suffers, at least at the diagnosis level. Be informed about this disease, and protect yourself and your loved ones from them, because if you don´t act, nor the government nor the medical community will do it!

I can’t thank her enough for using her voice and bringing light to the debilitating disease. It is most definitely A BATTLE EVERY SINGLE DAY. It is horrible and if you don’t know Lyme disease you have no idea what we go through everyday. Insurance doesn’t cover treatment so if you don’t have money you don’t get treatment. One day may be great, the next you may not be able to walk, or you’ll have migraines so bad you can get out of bed. Ive struggled since I was 15, and my mom called the doctor as soon as I pulled the tick off and my skin turned purple. The doctor said they couldn’t do anything until there was a bullseye. 2 months later the bullseye showed up and it was in my blood, I was hospitalized for 2 weeks. They found the Lyme in my spinal fluid along with meningitis co infection. Never in my life did I think a tiny pin sized tick would change my entire life. God bless my Lyme Warriors, we are the toughest ones around. Thank you Avril!!! 💚💚💚💚💚

When I was around the age of 6, I had Lyme's disease. No doctor would help and my poor mom watched me deteriorate, and I felt alone besides my family because people just saw me as a sick kid. I went to so many doctors and nobody helped me because it wouldn't show up. I was lucky enough for a specialist to come where I lived and he saved my life, other people aren't that lucky. Avril lavigne has always been an inspiration to me, but now I can appreciate her on a whole new level

My whole family has Lyme disease and we're still treating it. I'm just about to turn 14 and only about two years ago we got a diagnosis. I feel horrible hearing others stories as it's just as bad, no one understands, the doctors refuse it to be real. I'm so glad you were able to get that help. I am going through treatment currently *so is the rest of my family* and I am getting better slowly but surely c:

*Please thumbs-up this comment so people know* The thing about Lyme that a lot of people don't understand is that you need to have your bloodwork sample checked WITHIN 2-3 DAYS, or you ill get a FALSE NEGATIVE. Often times blood work on samples are done 1-2 weeks after the sample is taken, and by then the material within the sample that tells an accurate diagnosis (because it's such a small trace material) dies on it's own and gives a false reading. People need to find a place that understands this and tests the blood sample between 1-3 days, up to 3 day wait MAX, to get an accurate reading. False negatives happen all of the time. I worry that Avril might have mentioned this and ABC news censored it and didn't even share it. Also, people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia may actually have Lyme because the two diagnoses are so similar in the symptoms. With Fibro their tends to be a lot more muscle issues and pain, but both do have that.

what are you talking about these tests and almost all tests are done in maximum 7 days or the blood will coagulate eventually, they test for antibodies your imune sistem made at the time your sample is taken nothing is gonna die off i work in the er and when someone comes with a tick bite they do the test 4 to 5 weeks after the bite thats probably more important to mention that the tests are not relaible in the first 4 weeks if yove been sick for over 3 months and you test negative and never saw a migrating rash or tick(those things are sometimes pretty hard to pull)you probably dont have lyme

The tests that they use are not accurate at all. There are 2 of them. One will ping to a western blot if positive and the other has to be caught within 2 weeks of being bitten. One is 30% accurate and the western blot is about 60-70% accurate. A lot of people with lyme test negative for it and there are so many strains in the US. I agree if you have fibro you may actually have lymes because the symptoms are similar. In order for them to find an accurate test they would have to find a test that doesn't use antibodies. If you suspect lyme see a lyme disease specialist or infectious disease specialist. They can diagnose you on symptoms alone and if you improve on antibiotics.

I and many others with fibromyalgia also deal with many of the same symptoms--so I am so glad Avril is coming thru the other side of her own struggle! All of us with these type of illnesses deal with disbelieving docs (sometimes friends & family too), being passed off from Dr to Dr, all the while enduring the awful symptoms. Lastly, you feel your body is no longer your friend, but your jailer--with it deciding whether you can get out of bed, work, socialize. People suddenly think you're unreliable, uninterested. We grieve for "the old me", who seems hard to remember at all. My "old me" ran off 18 yrs ago with M.S. & Fibro moving in. But I know even so, there are people the same or worse situations than I, so what I can do, even from bed, is pray for all of those ill, scared, lonely. You're my extended family and we understand each other. 💞

I don't think people realize how devastating this illness is. When I first experienced symptoms I seriously could not get out of bed despite being very ambitious. I had really bad brain fog and couldn't think on my feet in college or study. I had really bad tremors, night sweats, joint pain/muscle pain, heart palps. The headaches are horrible too. Mine was so late stage that despite antibiotics I will continue to have symptoms the rest of my life. I tested negative for it btw

I truly love Avril. I met her at the MMVA's in Toronto a few years ago and she genuinely is so humble and is always willing to engage with the fans. Watching her cry touched me. People with Lyme go through a hard time getting diagnosed. People that have no idea about what it feels like to have lyme (death) might think she is exaggerating. It can be worse than living with HIV . Actually though! -- This happened to a Mexican artist too, Thalia who is now married to Tommy Motola . She suffered for months in the public eye and many top Doctors couldn't properly diagnose her until finally someone with Lyme saw her interview and heard her symptoms and contacted her, luckily she read the message and took that to a specialist.

Last year I was diagnosed with Lyme's Disease after a long process of our medical professionals here in Canada not being able to find out what was going on with me. Our doctors in Canada need to be EDUCATED about Lyme's symptoms because I had to endure 3 months of pain and misery until I was finally given a blood test for Lyme's Disease to which I tested positive. I fully understand as to what Avril must of gone through and perhaps still is because this disease is merciless with it's painful effects and what devastation it brings on later. I was fortunate because I was diagnosed in time and for the antibiotics to have worked. Thank you Avril and glad to see you back!

I don't normally post comments in youtube, but this time I have to. I'm an internaional student in the USA. I have been to the doctor a couple of times here and something that I have noticed is that doctors don't listen. They are well prepared (I assume) but they are arrogant, share very little information and treat the patient just like if they knew nothing. Once I took my son to the ER because he had pink color in his urine, I went to Medline plus and I concluded he had a uniral infection. I told the doctor "he has urinal infection", "what makes you think that?" she said, "the syptoms" I replied, "well, we will have him tested and we will decide that" she said arrogantly. 3 hours later she comes to me and say: "you were right". In anothye ocassion I went to the gastroenterologist, I explained my symptoms, he explained me how to eat healthy, which I already did because I lift heavy weights and told me not to drink milk, remove beans and eat more fiber. I was not satisfied with that and I told him, to what he said “ok tell me what were you expecting” and I said “I think I have colitis and I would like to get medicine to get it treated”, he didn’t give me anything. Couple of months later in my home country I was diagnosed colitis, got the normal medicine and felt better in a couple of weeks, just like before. Now, imagine April Lavigne, with the top LA doctors, a super star being treated like a crazy person (she said it), what can we expect from the rest of us mortals? USA health system and doctors need a change. (and before the haters come, I love USA and I'm not plannig to stay)

Gustavo Lujan Moreno im a latin american (from Chile) and here is basically the same. once I had sinusitis, I mean I felt like I had that because of the symptoms, also my grandma told me it could be that (former biology teacher, haha). I went to the doctor and told him I thought I had sinusitis, and then he told me the same your doctor told you when your son had that urinal infection issue. It really happened exact the same thing, haha. i think maybe they get scared ppl might be over diagnosing themselves (because there is ppl that does that and therefore they medicate themselves badly), but idk, also i think is a bit arrogant from them. in the end I did have sinusitis -.-

Pau Poblete As an American and a Lyme patient, I too agree with your assessment of our doctors. However, as far as them running tests before giving you a diagnosis and proper treatment... a lot is control by the insurance companies and the CDC. Doctors are not able to do practice at their own free will, their hands are tied up by bureaucratic red tape in many instances. It's a shame and it's shameful.

She said she doesn’t treat this so she referred me to “the best” infectious disease doctor who refused to even let me make an appt with HIM bc I “only tested positive for 3 out of 4 tests and must test positive in 5 tests” but he also refused to give me the supposed 5 tests!! I know I have it and I’m looking for a true Lyme doctor specialist now.. I moved to another state to find one.. problem now is it’s expensive.. Ins only covers some of doctors in NY and Virginia.. I moved to the wrong state.. but I am going to travel there after I save money. Meantime I see doctors hear and there some who give me the doxycycline and anti-fungal pills which I need on occasions when it comes back. It’s unreal that I have had to suffer for 5 years doing this fighting for my life! It’s unconscionable that most doctors and the CDC and big Pharma and big Med continue to do this to normal ppl like myself!! A form of genocide!!! I am a specialist certified in psychiatric diagnosis for over 40 years and this is NOT A PSYCHIATRIC DIAGNOSIS!! This is a real and devastating medical illness and they know it and deny it bc THEY ARE NARCISSIST SOCIOPATHS WITH severe GREED and ZERO CONSCIENCE WHO ARE RUNNING MEDICINE AND POLITICS in the US AT PRESENT!! It's depressing enough feeling so ill, to not be believed and expected to do things you are far unable to do, have Docs make you feel stupid when it's because they can't see what's wrong. It makes you feel so low. Even more so when recovery is so slow and then you go backwards. Regardless of how much she earns, your health is priceless. This why I never get too depressed about my trials and tribulations, I don't have any kind of conditions or health issues. I really wish the best to those who REALLY goes through afflictions including mental health. I could never really know your pain to the fullest extend, but I do feel empathy and have gone through hardship, prayers from me to you all.

The struggle and misunderstandings/lack of help from Doctors I understand and feel here pain 100%! Even after a diagnosis they don't...most not all docs do not truly get involved or interested in going the extra mile to help you or there is no cure or further treatment. Unless you struggle with an illness/disease you have no idea what someone's true daily quality of life is. (Physical and Emotional Pain) One thing is for sure...loving support from loved ones even some acquaintances/friends really can make some of the worst days more beautiful and bright. We all know how to be strong but sometimes we need someone to lean on and take a break from as much public/social interaction you can just for a moment. She is a beautiful soul and I'm glad she is getting back out there with some new music. I've always loved her style, taste, music, kind heart and personality since sc8ter boy. ✌💟💪
