On the 4th of July, 2022, I will celebrate my 100th birthday. I don't know when I first started singing Tchaikovsky's First, but I think it must have been in the 1930's when words were written for "Tonight We Love" - and I'm still singing it. God has been good to me and I can still sing although I've gone from first tenor to baritone. I just found this video on KZfaq and love it!

Tchaikovsky's 'Piano Concerto No. 1' is the first piece of classical music I remember hearing: it was one of my mother's favourites and I don't have a time from my childhood when we did not listen to it once a week or so. Anna, you and this wonderful orchestra have done it again. I am 84 and have been listening to this piano concerto for at least 74 of those years. We finally got a record player a few years after the Belfast blitz in 1941. I love the way you have portrayed this work by Tchaikovsky. You are my favourite piano artist of all time. Wow!! this makes me appreciate that I can listen to beautiful music like this at the click of a button on multiple technologies in my home or car, it makes me stop and think how you had to wait to be able to acquire a record player after the Belfast Blitz of 1941, hearing music only without the instant gratification we have today! I have been listening to Tchaikovsky since childhood -Nutcracker! Lonely Hearts! 1812 Overture! Swan Lake! and of course his Piano concerto number 1 op 23 -1875 whoohoo! and I love love love watching Anna Fedorova play with such talent and passion-as a piano player myself, she puts me to shame and I'm blown away by her amazingness, textured fortissimo and respect her so much, honoring my fave composer as well as she does with her usual Rachmaninov! I would die and go to heaven if she came here to Boston! Tanglewood plz!

When I was a young student back in the fifties I disregarded classical music. Then one day I went to the National Auditorium in Montevideo where this concert was played...and I was mesmerized! Music and I have been in love ever since -and I am 81 now.

@@veys_el_kara unfortunately that's true, but not that much. I notice more and more young people getting into classical music nowadays, and I have the feeling that numbers will keep increasing. I have had many different tastes when it comes to music, but I knew classical music 1 year ago (I'm 15). Because of that, many people I know started listening too. So no matter the age, (good) music is able to unite people. All it needs is some incentive!

As I don't play an instrument I may not be qualified to critique this performance, but it sounds very good to my ears. And about Tchaikovsky; he created so many beautiful melodies that bring joy to the listener. I wish the man himself had known more joy in his own life.

Fun as it is to play a piece, the most important element of music is how it sounds - therefore, you are in many ways as qualified to critique the performance as the most advanced of musicians!

You have a gift. You don't play, so you don't have to constantly critique technique, intonation, phrasing, interpretation, expression and the like. What I would give to not be shackled by a music education. I could hear with virgin ears and just enjoy!

Ha shackled by a music education! How would you like it if you studied accounting and finance and had to suffer through Anna’s work? Her playbook should be enough for anyone seeking the highest form of musical culture. Anna’s approach to Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Chopin is enough to quench anyone’s musical thirst. If she ever makes it to perform in St. Louis at our outstanding symphony, I will be in the first row.

@@frankreedy6437 What is your point? I love Anna. I certainly don't "suffer" through it. But I have suffered through bad performances by certain individuals. If you don't understand the post, don't comment. And, why would Anna go to a shithole like St. Louis?
