Terry, I love your description: "I was mesmerized, was almost like a meditation." I also have Cube Audio speakers (actually, Cube Audio Fc8 in a cabinet of my own design), and I had two female listeners last week and that's also how they described the sound. This one is special. Even with headphones listening on my laptop, the sound caught my attention in a positive way. I listened to your review at the end and then went back to listen to the entire set of 4 tracks. Much more engaging than many of your mega dollar reviews.

Tube amps with the right speakers are just the best for me. I play the TAD ME1 with a Audiovalve Solaris that puts out 2x6 watt. I would describe the sound just like you did with the system you showed here. I always thought power is needed especially to control the bass. But that is not true with the right speakers.

It might just be KZfaq, my headphones, or both but these and the 10 inch version sound sibilant. It might be the recording, too, as they didn't sound as sibilant here as in another of your videos featuring the 10 inch Nenuphar playing this same Michel Jonasz track. I really want to love these. Especially the 10 inch. They aren't extremely expensive. But I am very sensitive to those high frequencies, unfortunately.

What does the 10" driver offer over the 8" just more lower bass

Thank you for this review. I am very interested in these speakers and Tektron amps. I actually just ordered a small EL-84 Tektron from Robin after watching this to try with some Omega speakers. I'm wondering how much space the Cube Nenuphar 8" speakers need. Looks like you have one in a corner, which is similar to my room but I only have a few inches next to the side wall. I can pull the speakers out about 30" from the front baffle to the rear wall and the other speaker is open to a larger space, like what you have here, but mine is just reversed. Thoughts?

A-B test these against floor standing Triangle speakers. Or Lowther or Feastrex or even Fostex FR speakers. On a more powerful amp, maybe. Some Triangle floor standing speakers have horn tweeters and could be efficient enough for this amp. Can you do a comparison cos the Triangles horn tweeter speakers are about the best I heard (through my speakers) and the Cubes are about the worst treble I heard on professionally made speakers (through my speakers). I know which one will win. lol No hard feelings. I have FR (cheap driver) speakers myself and a I bet they would piss over these (especially in the "S"s) on my ch. Sorry for spilling my honest opinion. Is it the mic? I checked other Cube Audio speaker tests and (I'm sorry) the same hissy top end that clouds the detail (and terrible "S's" on the voice). Most FR other brands are way better in the top. Sorry! What I suggest. It seems that the large whizzer cones are causing a hissy resonance. So maybe get rid of all those whizzer cones and just have one really small one. Like 1/4" deep whizzer cone made from the best stuff you can hear. The tiny size of the whizzer will vastly improve the "S's". I reckon, and this is merely a "just saying" thing. See my ch for my (amateur hack) FR driver treble.

Regarding details, I have to disagree with you. I've auditioned in my dealer place with nenuphar 10. I couldn't hear a certain background notes in lower mid bass frequency, that sound was being obscured by other music in the foreground. Although it's imaging and soundstage is one of the best out there, I still think there could be certain frequency it couldn't render it well. I'm happy to let you know that soundtrack if anyone is interested. Thanks

Yes full range wide range band. Detailed sure. Seductive undoubtedly. Stick the soundstage. Realistic?Probably not so much. Great experience, surely. Fun? Probably! Yes delicate. Layback system.

Errrrmmm my favourite loudspeaker manufacturer is Tannoy.. Even their drivers from the past aka 60's the ALNICO ones still fetch stupid silly money.. So the DC10a the "a" is for ALNICO state this Frequency response (-6dB): 28Hz - 22kHz) and this is the baby. The Cube Audio Nenuphar, 10 state this 30 Hz - 18kHz ( 6db).. There is no other single driver speaker in the world that can out do a Tannoy.. Their stuff is just ridiculous amounts of over engineering something other companies lack. So people don't listen to others it's always been a silly thing to do. Oh one more thing in Japan this speaker isn't really rated the Tannoy when mentioned the eyes glaze over and mouths open wide in a kind of religious way.. The Japanese know a thing or two about valves and high efficiency speakers :-)
