Those are all great tips! I'm glad that you stated that it is a good idea to visit a place before you move there. That way you can get a first hand look on what the area is like and to see if it is a good fit for you.

Exactly, and I think with some major cities they are romanticized, so the reality can be very different than what you might think.

Thank you for the video. I think most people know they're illegal things that you need to do but not necessarily aware of the detail of it which you need to know before you go. It helps a lot. One of the things that you were saying is basically adaptability. Be adaptable to your situation but it doesn't mean you compromise integrity or safety. I love your passion for wanting to expose the transition or coming from one country to another. Have a great day.

My family is planning our move to the Netherlands in summer 2023. I've been getting lots of useful tips and inspiration in your videos! On the topic of apostilled documents have you across any information about how recently they have to have been done when you go in for your BSN registration appointment?

I want to say it's 6 months. But if you don't see it on the IND website, try contacting them on Twitter. They have always been pretty quick to respond to me.

Thank you so much for another very informative video. We have our Apostilles done thanks to an earlier video of yours! We will be visiting before we move as recommended in June. I will be applying for immigration via DAFT. My wife is rapidly learning Dutch and I am as well but a bit slower. One thing that I am completely confused about is if we can get a mortgage and buy a house when we immigrate or if we will have to rent for a year? We don't want to move twice. We have our sights set on somewhere around Utrecht. Our move will be permanent.

You are well on your way! Congratulations! I'm afraid I don't know anyone that bought a house before moving. Personally, I completely understand not wanting to move once you are here, but hanging out in different neighborhoods while renting to see what fits best is a good idea. Also, I don't know about the market in Utrecht, but in Amsterdam it can take 6 months-1 year or longer to view, bid, and get a house. Even with moving a second time, I think it would be less of a headache to do so and find the right place than hurry the process. For reference, we were here about 3.5 years before buying. But that was to save up the money. It will be different for everyone, so this is all just opinion, of course. Good luck with everything! How is your wife learning Dutch?

@@aWanderlustForLife Thanks for the reply. We are well on our way! We will vacation in Utrecht in mid June and celebrate our 10th anniversary. I'm very excited. We have two dogs and two cats (and no children, so they are our babies) so that's a huge hurdle for us. We have the money to purchase a house. We are frugal and have invested wisely so we are ready on that front. This is the point where it gets confusing. I'm almost positive we have to have a Dutch Mortgage right? We do not want to live in the middle of any city so I think that's an advantage. If we could find something a bit outside of Utrecht that would be choice. So that's the chicken and egg (kip en ei?) thing that I hit my head against constantly. BSN needs an address but you need a BSN to get a rental property and for that you need a Dutch phone number but for that you need a Dutch bank account and so on..... That's not even touching on me starting a business via DAFT. My wife is using DuoLingo right now and it is great (I've been learning Spanish for three years with it) but she's about to outgrow it. I think she will need person to person lessons soon. I'm very proud of how well she's doing with it. I need to step up my game on that front. She also has a brand new bike that we're getting used to. I'm an excellent "American cyclist" but don't know what to expect in NL.

Metric...easy, from the equator to the pole 10,000 km......it is connected to the planet, and to water, 10 cm squared is 1 litre water, one litre water of 4 celcius is 1 kg. And celcius (273 below is 0 kelvin absolute 0), 100c is boiling water at one atmosphere. 37 c is your blood temperature (= 100 f). 0 celcius is freezing water at 1 atm. it is all connected.... ( miles and fahrenheit is connected to nothing but body parts paces of a roman soldier and blood temperature...).

Stay away from Albert Hein, shop at lidl or Aldi. Don't go to restaurants, only chinese/indonesian restaurants are worth the visit..
