Nice trip you all had. I use to ride my 1980 Sportster from Whidbey Island to Forest Grove. Then 4 years later my 1983 FXWG to Forest Grove. Now I ride to Winthrop or backside of St Helens. PNW has many great roads to ride! Thanks for your video!

Bike sounds great! I just picked up a 2012 and have since modified it to a swing arm chopper… love it! With the tank lift and extended forks I can get 75 miles out of the tank; so, I take spare gas with me on long trips…😂

82 sportster, Denver to Roswell NM was my run for a few years. 500 miles, I was a lot younger then. I knew where every gas station was tucked away.

I cannot wait to get my own bike! So much better than cars!

The previous owner purchased the Scream'n Eagle Super Tuner Pro and had the dealer dyno tune it. It only had 1,200 miles on it when I purchased the 72 and it runs spot-on. Crazy fast for just having air filter kit and exhaust... Thanks for watching and commenting dsjkak1!

The 72 is quite comfortable and has more power, but I hands down prefer the Iron. Totally different styles. I have to be in the mood for the 72, but like riding the Iron any time... Thanks for watching!

I've always been a standard and sport bike rider, so I'm not a big fan of forward controls. However, I have to say, the 72 with it's forward controls and mini-apes is quite comfortable to ride. Maybe I'll get comfortable with that style of riding over time. Old dog learning a new trick... Thanks for watching and commenting David!

I had a 883 back in 2003 I bought new. I was 19 at the time. Rode with my dad 400 miles to visit his hometown and about 200 miles into the ride my ass was completely numb. Dad laughed at me the next 200 miles while he enjoyed his “ old mans bike” 😂. When we finally got there I felt like a mule had kicked me in the ass for 10 hours straight. And after a few days we had to ride back. That was my last sportster road trip 😂. But to be fair now at 36 even a dyna wide glide kills me! Time for a touring bike I guess

great video. I would be sweating riding out of town with that 2 gal. tank. I rode the '72 when they came out. Very nice bike. handles and rides much better than you would think just looking at it. I'm not a fan of forward controls but they work well on the '72. I saw a control relocation kit for it in the P&A catalogue that moves them back about 2". That could be the perfect location. keep posting videos of your rides with it.

Robert, I rode through SE Oregon in July. From Winnemucca to Lakeview gas was sparse to nonexistent. I did not see many bikes. In Lakeview I saw a guy riding a Sportster with two REI bottles strapped to the sissy bar.

I ride with 14 inch apes and forward controls on my 2010 Forty-Eight. The only bikes ive rlly ridden have been chopper/bobber harleys with the occasional buddies cbr. I have no problem getting low on corners and getting up high speeds(no glass with 3/4 helmet). I've even swung my peg up so it didnt scrape so i could get real low on a tight corner a couple times before. You'll get used to it and more confident as time goes.

I rented a 72 and kinda liked it. Just a little flashy for me though, but I like looking at them. Nice videos!

Just did 1500 miles in 5 days on a modified 08 nightster. NYC to skyline drive/brp, down western VA. Then to Delaware then back home. Mustang vintage seat and road king shocks

What size are those handelbars and do you have a part number on them and how comfortable was that ride? i am looking to maybe switch my stock xlc bars for those, but am wondering if there was a noticeable fatigue in the arms.

The seat is a Mustang Vintage Solo. I've also purchased the matching pillion seat. The seat is very comfortable and you no longer have that feeling of slipping off the back. My wife really likes the pillion seat too. However, she would like me to get a backrest added for her... She says that would make it perfect. Nice 72 man. I have a 2002 dyna wide glide but rode a sportster for 10 years. I like my big twin but I do miss the sporty. Sometimes that wide glide just feels like a handful for running around on. You have to respect it in turns and concentrate harder on manipulating things. The sportster was much easier to ride and so agile it would almost drive itself. Don't get me wrong on a long ride I'll take the wide glide all day long but sometimes I think the sporty was more " general fun". I wish I'd never sold my 2003 883 and just kept it for short runs

The tires on the 72 and Iron have that tread running down the middle. Can you feel that when you're running on the highway? Does the ride feel kinda bumpy, especially on the back tire?

Please some help in getting mixed info in gonna buy a 72 first bike but I like in Wyoming once you hit the interstate it's 100 miles for gas in some places can you put a bigger tank on it

At about 70 miles per tank that is roughly 6 fill ups for 400 miles. That is a lot of stops but I would guess the ride was worth it. Great vid!

I love that bike. Can I ask, when group riding, did you have trouble having to stop and fill up twice as much as the other bikes? Was there a feeling of annoyance with other riders? I always rode alone, so it's not something i have experience with.

I'm using the GoPro wrist strap that's included in the Remote Accessory Mount Kit.

I used to live in Bend, OR, and made that trip across the pass through sisters and Detroit Lake to Salem many times, and yes it is beautiful. I always worry about hitting a deer, because they jump out all along that stretch, so have to keep your eyes open and be alert. My favorite bike ever since I got out of the Navy in 1965 has been the Sportster CH, so this new 72 is a modern version, and I absolutely love it! I think by adjusting the rear shocks and adding the spring seat, it would be much easier to travel long distances. By the time you got to the restaurant, how was your butt...was it numb or did the bike give you a nice ride without making you a little numb...lol?! I am curious about how you fared going that far on the 72...?

The full face helmet acts like a big microphone. It will capture almost all the noise of the exhaust pipe. A 3/4 helmet is much quieter.

You should carry a spare fuel bottle strapped to your bike if you got a peanut tank
