John, I like your taste in rods, as a professional rod builder I like to save customers money, If I think a store bought rod is a better choice for them I will recommend such a rod , I like the tsunami rods and also the spiral wrapped Nexus Rods from jigging world. Dark Matter rods seem to be decent. Love the vids, you are the fluke slayer of L.I. right behind me, lol

Hey John Happy Thanksgiving and great video. It just so happens that I am snow bird and spend 6 months in Fla and 6 months in Ny, even though I fish for summer flounder in both loctions the technique is so different as you mention. Would you believe in NE Fla minimum size is 12'' @ 10 fish, which for me are to small so I release them, but keep them at 18".

Would buy the gear, but it only works when you use it! LOL! Seriously, you should fish some other waters (ehemmm, like South Jersey) and put your skills and gear to the test in OTHER waters :-). Open offer to fish two local reefs with you and your tackle over some different structure! The results would be more than interesting. Not that you would have a problem finding a boat to fish on if you came down, but the offer is there if you are ever interested. On another note - Like what you are doing! We all wish we could do what you do, that's why we watch. Keep up the cool/great work!

We did still manage to get out a little bit and got a couple fish so I have a pile of crabs for tomorrow if the weather is good. I mark ALOT of big fish, but I'm sure you know how currents at times which require you to put more than 12 ounces on and still have trouble holding bottom it's going to be very difficult to feel the togs biting your crab. Even with braid and single hook jigs. Great fluke video! Tight lines!!! Water mid sound dropped 5 degrees since last Monday (11days) ! Hope to get another trip tomorrow

you should try and use the daiwa proteus, I use it for bucktailing for fluke and it works great, it has a nice long handle for that comfort while jigging, a nice fast action tip and is super light weight but can handle those 10 pounders. You should give it a shot I think you would like it.

Daiwa Proteus, really? can you say over kill! rod was meant for long range fishing, 18" fore grip, the rods some people use for fluke is beyond me, also some you tubers use 2 speed reels for fluke and tog, smh.

With many fish species, the larger ones aren't as palatable. How does this hold up for flounder ? Notice you keep the largest and release smaller but legal fish. Just curious. Great vid by the way.

And one other thing what turned you guys on to this spot marking certain type of bottom any structure or certain depth and water temp and just drop em down and see who's home? Really appreciate your videos very informative and have learned alot keep em comming.

They release about 50 percent of the fish they catch and when you gaff fish you have a high risk of damaging the meat and killing the fish! Netting is safer on the fish!

Your link shows the tsunami rod is for the heavy. Which i tried to order off J and H but its out of stock. However they have a combo for the accurist and tsunami rod that they say is a john skinner combo. That rod is a medium heavy. Do you use MH or H? Or you use both? Also not sure what the difference in the 2 accurist are ac100hpta and ac101hpta. 101 has been out of stock for last few days I've seen.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
I use both. The H in the ocean, the MH in smaller waters. The H is the better all-around choice. I think 100 vs 101 is right vs left-hand retrieve.

@@JohnSkinnerFishing appreciate the response back. I know no one that likes to fish and im an addict who will stay out all day long every chance I get out. I try to learn everything i can from your videos. I was a large mouth bass angler for last 4 years. I gave Salt a try and started fluking late summer and im addicted! Gave up fresh water. I started at manasqauan inlet at the wall for the month of July but got tired of catching a ton of shorts and robbins. Did my first party boat on the Big Mohawk 1st week of August and got my 1st keeper! Actually i double limit (caught 1st 3 keepers in 2hrs on the 8hr trip) catching 6 all between 22-24", a few shorts, 1 skate, 2 seabass and 2 robin. Not bad for a 1st party boat trip. Deck crew said i caught the most keepers were shocked for being my 1st trip they said. I also put on my big boy pants and braved the fear of sharks finally lol. Since I also heard sandy hook/raritan is a breeding ground for great whites. Took my Old Town PDL kayak out into sandy hook/ raritan about 5 times late august and up to last day of fluke season. Not much luck but shorts, robbins, puffer fish and something took my line as my drag raced off and was screaming. However it came off my hook after i started realing in. Living much closer to Barnegat and Shark River/Belmar. I'll be spending a lot more time in my kayak out there once the season opens. When they move out to deeper ocean ill hit party boats later on. Sorry for long comment lol. Again, thanks for what you do that helps others!

Hey John what about the XH? Ocean-wise if you only have 1 rod, do you recommend the XH over the H? Only fluke on party boats in LI. Thanks.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 5 жыл бұрын
I don't like the XH for less than 5 ounces. For one rod I'd get one of these and trim 4 inches from the tip. bit.ly/2BhfkV5 It's the only rod I used on my last couple of trips.
