Awesome K5LA! Amtrak 54 leads the Coast Starlight

Amtrak P42DC #54 without a doubt is one of the juiciest K5LA's in the current fleet today! I'd been waiting for it to come out West to SoCal and it finally did about a month ago. It was added in Oakland to the southbound Coast Starlight #11. I went out and snagged it 3 times from Simi Valley down to LA.
Unfortunately the 54 hasn't led much since these clips back in April, just a few brief runs on the Sunset Limited. As of now it is trailing on the Southwest Chief.
It's a good one to hear in person, most P42s unfortunately don't sound like this anymore.

YAAAAS you finally got it leading! That 54 isn’t a joke man easily in the top 3 best horns Amtrak has right now! I easily consider 46, 54, and 206 a top 3! The 4 times 54 was leading my train I missed it EACH time which sucks. 54 gives me such 90’s through early 2000’s vibes. Great video my guy and fire K5LA of course!

Those would be my top 3 as well considering 816 is tanked! That 63 is pretty baller too! Ya 54 ain't no joke! 🔥 Thanks!

@@AmtrakCal462 Indeed and yeah 816 was a very tough pill to swallow that was a hard loss, I know engine 60 actually sounds a bit similar to 816 it’s not quite on that level but it sounds very familiar to 816 it’s in very good condition too. And YES 63 is on fire!

You know what this engine reminds me of? Remember a few years ago when engine 89 had that stellar NF K5LA back in 2014-16? 54 sounds exact like it!

Nice! Saw him flying through Ventura trying to catch 206 (which also had a great horn). 54 was definitely a cool surprise

Ya 206 and 54 are elite! The starlight was the train to see that week regarding K5LA horns!

I would’ve seen it had I known it was 54 leading, but I thought it was 206 and got hella confused when I heard 54 from my window
