This is a great tip! I’m a wildlife photographer and have always Geotagged photos, going back lots of years. In that use case you’re always moving, often large distances, so I use an app on my phone (ViewRanger), before that an old Garmin GPS, to generate a log in GPX format. Lightroom can then use the tracklog (map module, Map>Tracklog>Load Tracklog) to process all photos from a day of shooting.

You can also : check or set the time in your camera , use an app which can track your mouvement on your phone and share a .gpx ( run keeper, runtastic … ) and in Plan In Lightroom import the .gpx and lightrrom will geotag your photos

I have a regular GPS (DeLorne). What I do is set my camera clock to the GPS. Then when I get to a site, hit the button. This sets a waypoint. Checking the times between the GPS and camera metadata tells me all I need to know.

There are a number of apps for your phone that create a gpx track. You can use this file in Lightroom and it will then tag all shots based on the time they were taken. Used to do this all the time before getting a body with gps. Then it will accommodate all of your movements throughout the shoot.

Not into LR but you can write GPS information directly to your files using GeotagPhotos for example.

I use an old app called GPX Master. It automatically saved the completed file to my Dropbox account which made adding it to Lightroom easy to do.

Thanks for these videos without them I would be lost in a haze of talcum like technical dust. I have a problem maybe you can help me with. I do have a camera, EOS 6D, with a built-in GPS and have been using Lightroom and Photoshop CC almost since its inception. I use Lightroom CC for all my photography workflow and file management. About a several months ago I noticed that my GPS tags are not being imported when I Import into LR. I thought it might be my camera but after review and testing it appears to be LR. I am not sure but something has changed. I checked my import presets and they all have the Metadata box checked for GPS and Altitude as well as all the other things I require in my work. What has changed, can you help me?

Does not work for me on lightroom 8.1 ... I don't know why but as i drag photos over the map, the gps information isn't saved on the photos..

a gps tracking app is much more comfortable. E.g. PixTrack or a 1000 others. With the method from the vid you have to remember to take a phone pic every time. and then you have to drag the others images on the map like shown. With a gps logger: You turn it on once (e.g. when you leave the house). And after the shoot you just upload the log file and open it in LR. Done.

The best Lightroom tip would be to change to Capture One, Lightroom is so 20th Century.

Very bad tip…use a running app, export a gpx file and upload it in the map module. It will tag all your photos based on the capture time and the gps data.

I was hoping for a quicker and easier way than what I already do, nope. This way is longer and allows for a lot of forgetfulness

That was the dumbest tip for a while! Why do you need to take another shot from your mobile?! If you know where you were you can just navigate there in LR Map module and drop your shots wherever you want. The problem usually is that you DON'T KNOW exactly where you took the picture. For example when hiking, walking in a unfamiliar city etc. You take dozens of photos and need to pinpoint them. And the (this time useful) tip is that there are apps (e.g. Geotag Photos) that can track your movements and then sync the time stamps in your phone with your camera so that each photo gets GPS coordinates.
This HIDDEN BUTTON in Lightroom CHANGES EVERYTHING!
