There is a culturally importance to Celia in this performance. Can you imagine hundred years ago Africans were taken to the New World as slaves and they brought their music and sound with them. Over time their music change into new rythyms and in this video you can see the full circle, those rythyms traveled back again to Africa but now as SALSA how cool is that.

Celia Cruz is known as the Queen of Salsa. The guy dancing with her is their musical director, Johnny Pacheco, and yes, you saw Hector Lavoe singing backup, along with the finest vocalists of the era in that genre. All the Fania All Stars were stars in their own right and usually had solo careers of headed their own bands. The Piano player is Larry Harlow, a jew from New York. Fania All Stars were like the United Nations of Salsa music.

I am Venezuelan, and I grew up listening to Celia Cruz. When I watched this video, I cried because she was (and remains) such a big part of our culture, and it brought back many memories. I saw her in concert not long before she died, and she still had that energy, that love of life. Celia is one of my heroes. She brought such joy to us and sang about every facet of life. Humor, sorrow, heritage, exile, unity... she covered it all. It was also great to watch you enjoy her!

The guy in the white shirt is Johnny Pacheco..He and Jerry Masucci stated Fania Records in the early 70's..Fania Records was the MoTown of Latin Caribbean music. Johnny Pacheco is a master percussionist and an accomplished flaute player.. Celia Cruz and Johnny Pecheco want to have many Salsa hits for many years.

"The rumba is calling me/Tell her I'm on my way..." La reina cubana Celia! She is SO awesome, so hot! Look up the film "Mambo Kings", starring Armand Assante and Antonio Banderas (his first role). Celia has a role in it, playing a mambo singer who is also a Candomble priestess. She's kind of the Miami Queen, and all new mambo performers have to bow down before her. She commands the screen! . Also check out Cesaria Evora, brilliant singer from Cabo Verde: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbd8rceU0L-UaYU.html

Drums, horns, and one of the greatest voices in recorded music. This has it all. I grew up on Rush-- how I found this channel. Played death metal as a teenager. Huge bluegrass fan in my 20's. Now, Fania All Stars, Fela Kuti, and Tinariwen dominate my listening. Music is great, and this album has it all-- funk, class, talent, and energy.

That's as extensive a taste as my own LOL. Love bands like Rush, Opeth, Death, but I also listen to new wave, classic rock, classical music etc.. But with this it's different since I am latino and it is part of my culture so I guess I have an advantage with that! Respect for trying something different my friend and ROCK ON!

Celia, tan linda mi negra cubana, un aporte enorme a la salsa. Nunca pudo regresar a Cuba. -- Celia, my beautiful black Cuban, a huge contribution to the Salsa. She was never able to return to Cuba.

Celia Cruz is regarded as the queen of salsa even in Puerto Rico where salsa originated. She is of Cuban descent but she worked with every historical Musical Puerto Rican artist at that time. She was tremendously loved and respected by all her peers. As she was the pride of African American women worldwide.

Salsa originated in Cuba lol, but it became popular in PR.
@williammarquez25522 жыл бұрын
@@b.a.2406 you better do your history I can guarantee you 1000% salsa Was Made In Puerto Rico that's where it originated. Cuba had a different style and they was not called salsa. So please spare me this nonsense because I know my musical history. You need to go study yours because clearly you do not know what you were talking about. Everybody in their right mind knows salsa originated in Puerto Rico. Other styles came from different places but it was not Salsa Salsa was originated in Puerto Rico and that's not even debatable.
@williammarquez25522 жыл бұрын
@@b.a.2406 🤣🤣🤣 I know you wish it was originated in Cuba but sorry it wasn't originated in Cuba. I don't even know where you got that ridiculous idea from. Cuba had a totally different style of music not even close to salsa. And to tell you the truth Celia Cruz was the one who put Cuba on the map my with salsa because y'all don't have a lot of salsa singers out of Cuba. So how you going to say salsa originated in Cuba even though 85% of the salsa singers come from Puerto Rico come on bro you sound ridiculous.
@williammarquez25522 жыл бұрын
@@b.a.2406 on the contrary you got it backwards salsa originated in Puerto Rico and became popular in Cuba. And the one who put it on the map was Celia Cruz end of story. Don't try to add history where there is no history.
@b.a.24062 жыл бұрын
@@williammarquez2552 Do yourself a favor and google the origins of salsa. And the fact that you commented not once, not twice, but THREE times shows how desperate you are to try to convince others that salsa is Puerto Rican. Salsa is CUBAN lmao. I know Puerto Ricans wish that they could claim salsa, but it’s Cuban. Edúcate.
