This water scene diorama was the first time I'd used bark to model rocks, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
The diorama is very small - about as small as an A5 piece of paper - but it's all about the fine details in this guide to making the ultimate realistic scene
I used epoxy for the pool and Mod Podge Gloss for the water effects. Static grass tufts and some taller reeds made from hanging basket liner add variety to the vegetation.
I was really happy with the trees. They are made from weed stems from beside the road, with a good dose of scale leaves.
I hope you enjoy the tutorial / guide / whatever it is. I chose not to do a voiceover for this one. It just felt out of place, distracting from the pace of the video.
Many of the materials and tools I use come with safety instructions. Please always read and follow these rather than simply copy what you see me or other people doing.

You put a lot of thought and finesse into these scenes. I also like how resourceful you are finding your materials. There is a lot of commercial textured coloured stuff that anyone can get a pleasing result with using big shaker bottles, but this is proper detail informed by close observation.

Hi. I came across your channel (and subscribed) almost by accident after being captivated by Luke Towan's...and I have to say, your's is excellent too :-). I'm a scale modeller and have never built a diorama, but I have a few ideas on how to display some of my models, and have found your work inspirational. I love the techniques you demonstrate along with the creative use of materials. I really like the music you've added to the later videos too...it's very relaxing and makes the clips even more enjoyable. You have another ardent follower in me :-)

The format certainly does not work for me. I like narrated videos and now I just got annoyed with the music after a few minutes and I just started skipping through the video until the end. Your work was excellent and it deserves more than cheese music and some lines of text. I do understand the need to try different formats so I assume some feedback is appreciated too. :-) In any case, I found your channel just recently I love it! :-D

I'm curious as to the up-scale-ability of these micro-realms. If, for instance, one wanted to make version of this at 1/6 or 1/4 actual size, does one run into problems in regards to the techniques used to create the look of the water, for instance? I would imagine much larger models might entail developing entirely new techniques. (These are very beautiful mini-worlds, almost like "bullet-time" in physical 3-dimensions!)
@HighEyeWorkshop
@HighEyeWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, I imagine different materials would be needed. Well, I'm sure if it in fact. The resin wouldn't be an issue, as long as you had plenty of it and layered it appropriately, but the ripples would need to be a clear polymer or something. The other materials, like bark and grass, are only suitable for smaller scales.

Great vid and a beautiful end result! -But it just got me thinking... All the people (you) working in this the model/diorama/railroad building, are they (you) really buying these specific, and rather expensive, products like ModPodge, SculptaMold and small bottles of diluted acrylic paint? It seems to me that it is just watered down PVA glue, Plaster of Paris with some cellulose fiber added and regular acrylic paint that you can buy at the thrift store for a dollar or two for a whole palette of tubed paint, mix with water and put it in your airbrush... -Now, I don't mean to insult anyone, but I find it utterly satisfying to experiment with cheap everyday stuff e.g. mixing CA-glue with baking soda or using construction isolation foam and free wooden stir sticks from your local coffee shop. Please comment and share your own nifty and cheap tricks whatever they may be.
@HighEyeWorkshop
@HighEyeWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
I make my own scenic glue from matte medium. I use Mod Podge because it's convenient and I got a load on offer 😊 Sculptamold...I've made some with toilet tissue and plaster, but it's a mess and I lack time. I'm moving further away from 'hobby' products, though. It is incredibly expensive.
@enzocarbone
@enzocarbone 5 жыл бұрын
Why did you use a pieces of grass mat instead of a grass fiber + electrostatic machine? I think the mat remain still visible after glueing. Anyway, excellent job. Water is perfect. Subscribed.
@HighEyeWorkshop
@HighEyeWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
I use both. The mat is 12mm grass, which a static grass applicator struggles with. I blend the mat in with shorter lengths of static grass using the machine.
