When an actor like Carrie Fisher have serious drug issues it's difficult for them to get work due to insurance companies not wanting to back them on a movie. For example, she was supposed to play Miss Scarlet on the movie Clue but was dropped due to the insurance issue even though the director wanted to work with her.

Tom Arnold was surprisingly good in True Lies. But this movie has his funniest line ever.

It's so weird seeing that people can be unfamiliar with these movies now; it's no exaggeration to say that in the time before memes, all we did was quote Austin Powers to each other. When I was 13/14, my brother, my cousin and I watched this one and The Spy Who Shagged Me constantly. This brings back so many memories from middle/high school, of simpler and more fun times. Mindy Sterling (the woman always screaming) is actually the sweetest lady I've ever met. I met her at a comic con. She voiced one of my favorite characters from Legend of Korra. I paid for an autograph of my Pop, but she let me have a photo too. I'm always respectful when taking photos and don't touch the other person, but she wrapped her arms around me and gave me a big hug. Meeting her and then watching her play this role again actually makes it ever funnier to me.

We didn't make you watch everything to get ALL of the references. The black spy suit worn by Vanessa was a reference to a spy TV series, "The Avengers." Diana Rigg, the actress who married Bond in "Her Majesty's Secret Service" played in the Avengers and wore the suit. 60s movies and TV shows were prone to have musical / dance scenes, which is why the opener was like that. The musical interludes with the fast camera cuts were used in 60s TV shows like "The Monkees" and "Laugh-In," with the musicians being a reference to the Monkees and the blonde dancer in a bikini being a reference to Goldie Hawn, from "Laugh-In." Robert Wagner (Number Two) played lead in a 60s spy-type TV show "It Takes a Thief."

What I appreciate about this movie and why it has stuck with people all these years is that yeah its a parody and making fun of james bond and spy movies. But it completely stands on its own. You can enjoy this film just fine without ever having seen a james bond or spy movie. Its a fun adventure thats funny, well acted and just a good time.

I had this on VHS, and there were some after-credit scenes, where some of the families of the nameless guards Austin killed are notified of their loved ones' deaths.

Liberace was a famous pianist and singer who wore very glittery clothes. He's actually the person who turned Elvis onto the more garish clothes he'd later wear. And he was also very obviously gay, but because he was also very conservative, he never came out publicly, but the men he hooked up with told a different story.

The shoes that blew powder in Austin's face were Nike Airs. They were a real thing briefly. There were rubber bladders in them that you pumped up to the fit you want. They weren't great, hence, they weren't around long. There's also a joke about them in Robin Hood: Men In Tights.

The guy playing the piano on top of the bus was a legend from the 50s and 60s, Burt Bacharach, who wrote songs for many singing artists, and his stuff was all over the radio back in the day. Also he wrote a few Bond 007 opening scores.
