Momota mention in one of his interviews that he sees doube vision after the accident in malaysia, maybe he can't pre-read his opponent's swing now like he used to. Before his accident he could almost predict and prepare in the right direction for his opponent's smash or drop but now has to react after his opponent move, hence requires more energy consumption. Can do a few push ups during matches in the past but now sweating in court more than he used to.

Great Podcast Guys! 👍 I think VA more prone to long rally players like kodai, kunlavut and also prannoy, thats why Ginting is having a tough time every time he faces VA because he's naturally attacking player therefore takes more punishment from VA defenses and his consistent lifts. Agreed 100% with AA that these previous loses is actually manifesting in Ginting's attack when he's playing against Axelsen. He should just let it all out, don't need to think too much and play all out his attacking game. That way we'll have even more magnificent entertaining match 😜

I just know Zii Jia is definitely burnt out because of the constant pressure from his country since he is the only one that has a chance to win the Olympics after LCW, every tournament that he loses is another wave of toxic comments from Malaysians, so I can understand his predicament. He's spending time with his family right now, my schoolmate is actually one of Zii Jia's family members and he says he's doing well mentally and just needs some rest and time with family for him to be able to come back. Hopefully he comes back soon because he is one of the most fun players to watch.

Regarding Lee Zii Jia, he seems to be similar to Loh Kean Yew, they show flashes demonstrating utter brilliance/dominance, but seem to lose focus or not bring that same level consistently Loh is sooo quick with his footwork and strong, but appears too relaxed and passive for my liking. Maybe he's too nice a guy 😊 Lee is the hardest smasher, most powerful and very intense. But perhaps he burns out too quickly with this style Maybe we need to squish both players together to make a super player! 😂

Kento Momota's perspective on life has changed for sure due to that car crash he was in. We are all human at the end of the day & that type of event is simply too big to not have impacted him mentally. I agree with all the other comments here that there is most likely also something affecting his health, his physical health, also impacted by the accident. It's incredibly sad, as someone else that travelled in that vehicle passed away. (the driver if I am not mistaken) Dealing with survivor's guilt also is physiologically draining. Momota himself might be in a place still where he himself can't talk about it yet, so healing takes time. While our minds are extremely powerful & as athletes we must be extremely strong, this type of event is extreme. It's not something we know how to deal with 💯. Also, if there are physical ramnifications from the accident, that's a lot of mind space on top of everything else. While it is sad, it's also given Momota a different kind of appreciation for life & hopefully he will be able to use it somehow in the future perhaps in ways we yet can't tell.

i know this might be unrelated to the podcast, but I would like to know your insights as to why Kento Momota isnt entering more competitions to boost his rankings? He did it after his 2016 suspension, slowly rose up the ranks by entering small comps. Why cant he do the same again to have a chance at rebuilding his confidence? I find it counterintuitive that he isnt joining more comps when he is behind 3 compatriots. Take this week's Taipei Open for instance; he isnt there but his other teammates are. Could he possibly be bound by sponsors to only be able to partake in bigger events, or could it be his national team restricting him in some ways?

He was entered into Thailand and Singapore Open but withdrew from both due to back injury, which also explains why his performance in Indonesia Open being lacklustre. He is likely not ready for the tournament. This back injury has been haunting him since late 2021 where he sustained it during the match against Kanta Tsuneyama. He was forced to play in pain due BWF rule of retiring against his own countrymen would lose him points. However, not qutting earlier proved to be catastrophic, as not long after, he had to withdraw from WC, and when he came back in 2022, he was no longer the same. Momota car accident is the much more well known incident and it did kickstart his misfortune, but his lesser known back injury is likely the bigger cause of his poor performance thereafter, and it would explain why he did not join as many tournaments as his compatriots.

The Malaysia incident (that he is not fully recovered from in both mental and physical states since it came at a very annoying timing right before Olympics). Momota promising career has been filled with disruptive events that mentally were too much to handle. The gambling punishement involving his friend Tago Kenishi, the malaysia car accident where he witnessed death up close since the driver was killed but also permanently affected his vision, then the covid lockdowns started. Eyesight issues cannot be fixed with trainning. Something not mentioned but the retirement of the big legends LCW / LD might have also contributed to his demotivation on the world tour. With so much going on you start to question the life path and wonder if something else is planned for you by the universe and God-Source. I don't think He even have spiritual grounding, this is the thing you need to overcome the life odds and stay motivated. Momota stand out asset was his anticipation coupled with a pristine touch at the net that made him an annoying monster of defense, you can see how much the lost his 'spider-sense' impact his game. He is not only unable to read the shots but has to deal with distracting visual feedback

Great episode. Love listening to them. I have a question regarding Danish Olympic Qualification. Obviously Anders you now are training away from the national team, but Gemke is still there. Let’s say both you and Gemke make the top 16, the national federation picks who play thee Olympics. Do you think you’ll be at a disadvantage due to not being in the team vs Gemke who is? I’m English and I know Greg and Jenny have just had problems with European games selection. The selectors picked Marcus and Lauren due to them being national team and Greg and Jenny not. Also back during Rio qualification. Marcus and langridge didn’t get picked despite them qualifying higher than Ben and Sean at the time.

Momota's anticipation was his strength. And he making anticipated. So he can makes lifts little early before player get base position after every shot. He grinding each and every point like this. And he is not looking for winning. Je looking for every point. And getting prepared for every service. Now these all not working like he planned. Nobody allowed him to anticipated. I hope momota will back. Bhe shows some flashes of him. Only one thing he should improve is forehand side chase attack. He is little slow here. Young players good at that. He must focus on thos chase. Must do alot jumping workouts similar to volleyball players. I suggests two workouts for him 1)boxing 2)box jump(try to achieve the world record. Keep this aim in every box jump workout). Old momota preparing for every points mentally and physically.

Regarding Momota, from my point of view, the mens single play style has changed so much in the past 3 years post covid. Now its much more fast, explosive and everybody seems to have levelled up their play. And it simply doesnt suit with Momota play style where he likes patient rally style, good footwork, and he relies on his good quality strokes to get points. He was never known for having very hard smash, and his footwork seems to be very heavy (slow) nowadays.

Ginting is good with fast rythm gameplay. But victor lifts is incredible, ginting can't control his fast rythm against that lifts.

why dont players have more advertisments on their uniforms from big brands like mcdonals and so on ? who pays for the flight and hotels you guys travel too ? olympics is anyones guess , its who ever is on top of their game at that period of time is going to win.

Axelsen playing in his top form is really unbeatable, I doubt even prime LD, LCW, Chen long can beat him when he’s at his very best.

@@OwenLaw-lu7oq aside from LKY, ginting is already the fastest player on the circuit and he still got thrashed by Axelsen
@OwenLaw-lu7oq

This is because of Axelsen’s ability to let Ginting to play slow game. LKY best Axelsen last year because court conditions in Denmark are fast.

I think after the accident, Momota's brain cant set badminton to be the highest goal in life anymore, in your subconsious perspecitves do change after traumatic experiences,..well that is the only explanation I have !

To me Kento Momota has lost his passion for badminton, it is not a lack of skill or anything else, i think after the accident he had he just can't find maybe the motive anymore
