A thought: One could say that the scx24 isn't wide enough out of the box for good side-hilling. Or, one could argue the bigger flaw is that the stock center of gravity is too high. That lead weight on the top of the esc probably isn't helping the side hill situation either. IMHO intentionally adding weight at any point higher than the axles is working at cross purposes. Light weight is actually good for a crawler, and adding weight low is only needed to the extent that you need to offset weigh that is high.

i have been using the stock servo for over a year now and no problems, i even have weights and new tires. All i have ever had to do was tighten the screw for the servo.

I, for one, appreciate the honesty. I have a couple 1/18 scale Pandas & really like them, finally got a couple scx24's to tryout (had to have the Bronco!), but this one really looks interesting. Personally, I like lots of wheel speed!!

I have two SCX24's and really like them. I also just ordered the FCX 1/18 Atlas 6x6 (due here Tuesday) which looks super slick. I love 6x6's. Also I just ordered a couple of Emax servos and mounts since it sounds like I'm gonna need them.

Great comparison. I may have to pick one of those FCX24s. I really like my FMS Katana. Part of the fun modding it was figuring out how to do it since there are no specific aftermarket upgrades. I agree w/ you fully on the build aspect, get an SCX. Leave it alone for the most part, get the FMS. I’m sure as you say, aftermarket will catch up to these FCXs soon. Have a great one!

My gladiator tends to go most place my 1/10 gatekeeper can do. My is very modified, all metal, still running a brushed system, with a hobbywing 1080 esc, hobbywing motor, double barrel shocks with short springs off the orig shocks, shit pot of brass, and the list goes on and on. Absolutely the very best 1/24 platform out there. I call mine OX

Great vid. I'm considering the Gladiator which is v different, however the fms is my alternative. That thing is super dialled in. Very impressive. And not as 18thy as I thought it might look, width aside. Nice one.

Awesome dude still haven’t pulled the trigger yet I was thinking the red one but I think I really like the yellow, the lights on the bronco I switch the wires around to where the headlights stay on bumper lights on and off

ive got a FMS LC80 landcruiser and I love it but I am looking forward to FMS releasing upgrade parts, the lc80 is really slow and under powerred and needs some lower wheel weight. looks amazing though cant really complain. im impressed with this new truck!

Got my fcx24 2 days ago.. stayed stock for about 7 min.. put my rgt v2 body and bumpers on it, 53mm shocks, beadlock wheels,wheel weights and tires. This thing crawls SO well.

Heck yeah! I honestly prefer the cheat code at this point. I’m pretty sure the Killr chassis got its name from the front link situation because it’s a Killr pain to get them mounted without binding lol. The ugly af is still a great chassis but I love the sliders and upper link mounting options on the cheat code. That chassis is just super clean and works really well.

Also hope FMS stick to their word and bring out those upgrade gears which really should have been included as standard . Time will tell , too early for me to invest in one just yet!

Cool comparison brother!!!! I am liking the FMS more I drive it. The oil shocks mod made a big difference on mine, no more bounce or sudden shock unloading.

Did you get yours to hold much oil? I tried on mine and they just won’t hold anything. I gave them a couple drops and let them be. Much smoother just being greased up a bit

@@2fmrc mine are holding about 3 drops. I put 2 o rings in each shock. Where the shaft comes out of the shock, it is a little cap that pops off. That is where the tiny o rings go.

I am sticking with SCX24, at least until there are more upgrades for the FM. I hate the looks of FMS, seem like the bed section was half thought out because the designer was lazy and I hate, hate the tractor wheels and tires look.

You where the 1st channel I saw right after Easter when I ordered my 1st Scx24 been checking everything you post you are always on point you know your trucks man you know your stuff and that made me goin with this new hobby . Now I’m looking to buy my 2nd 24scale and was about to order a deadbolt so I can mod my own Betty body and make smt that looks like….the fcx?!?lol Im so confused at this point since I love how this lil new truck performs from your review. getting it where I live is a pain (Greece) but I think it might worth it..and it looks it ll come cheaper than getting a deadbolt to super mod it into a mud truck like fcx ...

You aren't kidding on the Bronco. Mine has brass links, knuckles, diff covers, and wheel weights. It was so heavy, the servo wouldn't turn the wheels while she was sitting on them.

Thanks for the great video. It's all up to FMS and/or the aftermarket. The FMS is great right out of the box until it breaks. We need some metal gears for sure. I think there is room in the market for both the FCX24 and the SCX24. Like you said, the FCX24 might be better for people who just want a solid truck and don't want to tinker. It would need a different chassis and more standard electronics to be mod friendly. I mean, who has Molex 1.25 servos or even Molex 1.25 to JR adapters? I certainly didn't.

Nope! Me neither lol. I know of a few things coming for it and fms has said they should have metal gears this month so we will see. Those are a must or it’s dead in the water lol

@@robertcobb2805 Portal gears are all metal at this point. Only early units had plastic portal gears. For anyone modifying their truck with brushless power, yes I think metal transmission gears are a good idea for long-term durability. If you're keeping the stock motor or some other 130 brushed motor, it should be fine.

Really excited for the FMS FCX24 official product line and aftermarket ecosystem to develop. Just getting interested in the 1/24 crawlers. If I were starting a build today I think I would base it on the SCX24 and maybe wouldn't even buy an RTR, just build it from the parts I want from the get. I'm the opposite of an 'out of the box' guy when it comes to crawlers. I want to tweak EVERYTHING. Saw 2FM RC put the FCX portal axles on the SCX and now I can't get it out of my head!

I have a vid on it. I used some gladiator rear links. Removed the pivot balls and just mounted them straight without the balls. There is a 3D printed kit available on eBay now that does the same but much easier. I’ll be testing it soon. Supposed to arrive on Friday I believe.

Double check the axle ball end of the axle on the mofo portals. The portals have a tendency to bend them, then they bend. Have to reduce end point to prevent.

Great video content!!! I own a stock scx24 deadbolt and my fcx24 will be here tomorrow. The one thing about the scx 24 it is like 1 inch narrower so I feel the fcx24 is more a 1/18 vs a 1/24. Either way I feel everyone should own at least 1 of each. For indoor courses do you prefer to run the fcx24 or scx24?

Honestly the scx24 probably fits most indoor courses better but I still prefer my fcx24 a lot of the time if there are any big hills just because that 2nd gear is wicked!

This is my next 1/24 crawler as soon as it is available in my country. I already have a Gladiator axial with an ESC V2 which is really good but the FMS is in my opinion much better. The 2-speed gearbox and the very very slow modulation are a big plus, not to mention the "lighthouse" options, the better-made bodywork and the portal axles. Sorry Axial but my money will go to FMS now. Thank you very much for your test and comparison.

So, I am new to the scx24s field. I saw the review that you did on the MoFo Big Block engine and you had used in one of your scx24s, it looked awesome. I was interested in buying the FMS Smasher 4wd RTR for $156.00 of of their website, can I ugrade the stock motor in it with a Mofo RC BAM engine and a Lizard Pro ESC? Is it possible to do this and if it is, do you have a "how to" video do this?? Please let me know, Christmas is around the corner......thanks for your help!!

I got mine today...not a fan of the wiring or the body mounts. And for $150, metal gears would have been nice. But, the 2 speed and portal gears are cool for this size of a truck.

Yeah I cleaned up my wiring first thing! I love/hate the body mounting system. It’s a pain to get off sometimes but at least it holds when I get wild lol. Definitely need those metal gears soon!

Congrats on the trucks! I really like this little tool kit from Injora. It has everything you should need for both trucks and the wheels I believe. I really like that it breaks down and fits in the case. I throw it in my pocket if we go down into the woods with the trucks. It’s been a really good set so far! I use medium speed whenever I crawl my scx24, low dose nothing if something gets in the way, 2nd helps trigger control when crawling and hi if need wheel speed, not much more but it's the only time I noticed any difference from 2nd to 3rd...

New sub, never owned a Hobby RC, think the FMS is the starter for me after seeing this. Bought a Volcano EXP for $20, been rewiring it, needs a new receiver and hopefully good to go, can't beat for $40 total. Coming from Quads and Drones, excited to add FPV cameras to trucks and see how it goes!

Yeah with an Scx24 I automatically order servo,steering links,wheels and tires & motor at least and usually an esc but can live with the stock if needed lol

So, with the FMS being your preference, which vehicle is your preferred donor for a small scale monster truck?

Atm I’d definitely say the scx24 for that. There are just so many options of chassis built for the scx24 to be turned into a monster truck. Once metal gears are released for the fcx24 axles I’d probably consider using them though even though they are portals because of the speed you can get with them. But for now I’d start with an Scx24 for a monster truck build no doubt!

Sweet! I printed some links myself which are similar to that kit but he’s sending me a kit to check out so I’ll probably toss mine to the side 😆. I love/hate that body system. I hate it because it’s kind of a pain but I love it because it actually holds when I get in a bad bind on the big rocks lol

So, I lied in your last video when I said I was going to wait... Couldn't, so now I have an FCX! As you say, great little truck out of the box. My C10 is better in some ways, then again, I have WAY more time and money in it with wheels/tires, micro Komodo/Lizard Pro, links all around, Emax digital servo, overdrive front gears, Flysky receiver, custom aluminum boat side sliders which double as receiver and ESC mounting points, front battery mount, patina paint job, etc., etc.... BUT, being from Louisiana originally, I immediately recognized the mud truck look of the FCX, and have been wanting a Power Wagon rig anyway. So, even after seeing your portal gear issue, and telling myself to wait it out... Nope, couldn't do it, so rolled the dice! Plan to do a little scale detailing and patina work, already added 28 grams per corner with lead in the stock wheels. Really like the mud truck look and think of this as more of my "scale rig" rather than an all out performance rig, so plan to keep the stock wheel/tire combo. Will look into other mods when they become available, but won't go to the extreme I did with the C10. But, will order metal gears when available. Game changer for me as just an all around play rig is the two speed. This thing hauls ass in second! Like with your kids, it adds a new dimension to the small scale stuff, but it still crawls good in 1st. Check your drive shafts! I found both of mine to be out of phase, Also opened up all portals and diffs. Found them a bit dry so added grease all around. Hoping this little thing holds up, and already considering adding a second to build a wood stake panel bed and turn into a little scale farm truck. All in all, so, far, a cool little truck!

Oh man! A little scale farm truck would be sick! I checked my driveshafts already for sure. Noticed on my first rig when I was stretching it that they were out of phase so I checked this one also.

@@2fmrc Yep. With the excellent hard body of this one I think I'll concentrate more on the scale aspect rather than performance. Was at Hobby Lobby the other day looking for some things and in the doll house section I found some tiny little hay bails which gave me the idea of a farm truck. Been getting a bit more interested in the scale side of things lately, and realized that I didn't need to make EVERY RC I own into a comp level crawler. I little variety doesn't hurt, and the artistic side of the hobby is a bit different from the mechanical. Been trying to pick up some tips and tricks from the static scale model guys for paint techniques... Just something new...

I think they are cool for sure. But I think I’m going to pass, for now anyways. Lol 2 speed is cool but I’m just not a 2 speed guy even in my 1/10’s. I’m a straight axle guy for the most part so I don’t think I need the portals. Lol and last is just part support on SCX24 is a no brainer for me. If the FMS comes out with the part support like the SCX24 I’ll definitely buy one. Thanks for the video Matt! 🤟🏼

I totally get that. I don’t own a 2 speed in 1/10 either and honestly never cared to have one. I think the worm gears make me feel like I need it for the 1/24s lol. That’s the main reason I sold that Losi Nightcrawler I had. I hate worm gears lol. Even just having a 1/24 without the worm gears would be nice. Usually I can get the speed I like and still crawl well with a good set of electronics. We definitely need lots of parts for the fms to succeed but I think it’ll get some love fairly quick. I hope anyway!

For a trail truck maybe. Not for a serious crawler. The servo layout is horrible for a serious crawler. The steering links hit on everything. Gearing is horrible out of the box etc. I’m going to do a video soon on why I would pick the fcx24 over both the scx24 and Trx4m. I love my Trx4m for a more scale type rig but the one I’ve made into more of a performance rig has some issues that I just don’t care for.

In stock form .. the scx24 is actually designed for trailing and over landing. The rocks it’s ment to go over is the same rocks that a real life wrangle can do to scale. Problem is , the scx24 , for some reason , people want the trucks to climb over rocks larger than the vehicle itself literally lol and everything starts breaking in it , like what should happen , and it gets bashed. 1/10 crawlers for big rocks , scx24 for baby rocks .. it’s that simple guys

I totally agree but this was stock Vs stock. Each truck has their stock tires so I didn’t want to change the tires. This is basically how they perform out of the box against one another. As close to it as I could anyway because the stock servo had already died in the scx lol

I don't think they should call it a 1/24 scale truck. When compared to the FMS 1/18 trucks, the FCX24 looks to be the exact same scale. My OCD gets the better of me seeing the FCX24 next to the SCX24. But the FMS trucks are really cool. Gotta get us a few of them soon. Nice comparison. Thanks!

Yeah but they should also just call the scx24 a 1/20 lol. They are all sorts of messed up on these sizes. I put the fcx24 next to the axial 1/18 yeti jr and it’s a baby lol. That’s a sxs so no way it should be that big at 1/18 scale lol

@@2fmrc yeah, the SCX24 scales out to about a 1/22 scale when you measure the wheelbase. But if you compare the other FMS trucks to the FCX24, they look the same, and the other FMS trucks are huge compared to the SCX24.

@@BreydonsRC I have just gotten so used to stretching out my scx24s that it’s not even that big to me. It’s big next to my bronco because I’ve kept it a bit smaller but my gladiator is actually longer than it is stock lol. And my silver Injora body truck (Hardpark chassis build) is just as big as my stretched out fcx24 so it was actually bigger than the stock fcx24 lol. The fcx24 is nowhere near as big as my fms k10 but a lot of that truck is the big ol body 😆. For outdoors the fcx24 is the way to go. It’s a beast! For indoor the scx24 is a better size most of the time. That’s my opinion for my uses anyway. I’m gonna be posting a video of the fcx24 taking some abuse and hitting some really good lines soon. Hopefully this evening or tomorrow sometime!

@@2fmrc will look forward to that. Most of my builds are scalers to some extent, so it's just a bit of OCD on my part when it comes to the scale. Our outdoor area, which was just a flat area that was being landscaped, is now planted with grass. So our last run vid will be the last one we do out there unfortunately. So now I have to figure out a place to take them to crawl outdoors, and there really isn't anything close by.
