Axminster Flagship Store Move

A friend of mine did not realise that the Axminster store in Devon had moved. Just in case others are not aware I have put this short video together to spread the news.

Thanks Peter, I've been buying from Axminster for many years and visited the original store over 20 years ago, it was a great little shop but the new larger stores enable them to display and demonstrate things in a way that could never have been achieved in that space !

Hi Andy, Yes, the new store at Axminster is certainly the place where woodworkers will be able to spend plenty of time making their key equipment purchase decisions as well as being the perfect place to pick up all those very important little extras. Cheers. Peter

Reminds me of Rockler in the USA. Each weekend they hold a training course you can sign up for usually features one of the tools in their range. I did plane and chisel sharpening .

Yes, Axminster have invested quite a bit into training and education. They do a lot for the various training colleges where people do apprenticeships to become woodworkers. Peter

Thankyou Peter. That original store back in the day was a Mecca for me before online shopping. Kwhen ever I was heading north out of Cornwall I would make a detour and always leave with a brilliant new tool.

When I lived in West Dorset I too would nip down there whenever I could. I am looking forward to a visit one day but I do most of my shopping with them via the internet as it is so efficient. Cheers. Peter

I remember well their original store in the late 70's and early 80's on the Chard Road just down the road from the front of the secondary school. Went to the one down by the roundabout when I was in town last year. These days the closest store is over 17,000Km away from me, but still buy online.

I've not been to the new store yet, but did drive there from the old one to collect something from the warehouse they have had there for years. I believe the new one is even bigger (and the old one was a fair size). It's good that they're now co-located and parking there will be a breeze.

You are right, the store has expanded and co-locating with the warehouse means a very simple job of collecting an item that is not in the shop but in the warehouse - I have lost count of the number times that, like you, I had to drive from the old shop to the warehouse. Great to see Axminster expanding like this. Peter

Thanks for the info, I always thought the Axminster store in Axminster was a little cramped in comparison to the Cardiff store which I visit occasionally

And our local store has closed Peter! I’m quite upset that Basingstoke has closed. I assume online has taken business away from the stores and the cost of living crisis is bitting. Still sad though.

Hi Stuart, I was talking to a friend of mine a couple of days ago and we both had to admit that we do almost all of our Axminster shopping on line as it is so efficient. What one misses from not visiting the store are all those extra little things that get overlooked when sitting in front of the computer and also the bargains of course. Cheers. Peter

Thank you Peter I’m green with envy especially as my closest store has just closed down but even then it was a two hour drive. It was nice to see the video of all the tools I can’t afford and don’t have room for 😂😂😂

Their new store looks great but it’s such a shame that they have closed the Nuneaton branch. Now there is no serious tool or supplies store in the midlands.

Don’t bother the machines come from China badly packed took 3 bandsaws ( still had to file out the key way ) and 2 bench sanders before I got something ok ish. The items are heavy and the packing poor so they arrive chipped and bashed.

It’s all our own fault I suppose,dammed internet has a lot to answer for
