Alyssa - I'm really sorry to hear that! Is he still eating well or refusing food? Given how skinny he is, I would seek professional advice immediately and find an exotic vet who can treat axolotls. Two weeks without food is typically okay for an adult axolotl who has lower metabolism, so I personally would not research on the Internet anymore but would go see a vet who can run some more in-depth tests. Please do let me know what you find out and how your axolotl does!

Jonathan - You know, my leucistic axolotl also had white spots that made me freak out at first, but turns out they were just part of her skin color. As long as your axie is eating well and behavior is healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. :)

Really interested video. I remember when I first got an axolotl, he came impacted, which made me somewhat anxious as he was floating and playing dead. But once he passed the gravel he was all good, just cold water and moving the tank in to my bed room so I could make sure I could clean out the small stones before he'd try and eat them again. I don't use any sand or gravel in my tanks but the pet store I got him from was using gravel and it was almost a week before he had passed them.

Hi so I left for day and ask my sister to make sure my little water sausage got fed. I came back and noticed my axolotl was floating a little in the rear so I looked in the tank and noticed brine shrimp every where. I then took water sausage out and cleaned my tank. I am currently tubbing my axolotl because I think they are stressed out and haven't pooped since I got back. Which I found this whole thing odd as I literally left instructions tapped above my tank which do say to feed blood worms not the brine shrimp. Did I make the right call or was it not necessary to tub the little one

Hi! Great video! One question, How do you get your axolotl out of the tank? Mine is still young and does not like to be touched by hand..
@GirlTalksFish
@GirlTalksFish 6 жыл бұрын
Romy Beijersbergen Great question! Most people don't recommend using a net since the axolotl's flailing limbs could get tangled in the mesh. So that leaves a) using your hands or b) scooping them up with a plastic container. Most axolotls don't like being picked up, so sometimes I would ask a friend to help me by holding the bucket or quarantine tub right next to the lip of the aquarium... That way I could swiftly transfer the axie without the risk of dropping him on the ground. Good luck!

I use a smaller Tupperware and just scoop him up!
5 жыл бұрын
Romy Beijersbergen I pick mine up by hand. He doesn’t seem to mind it now. I don’t do it often , only when stripping the tank to clean it thoroughly. I think picking him up by hand is the best way. Nets can tangle their limbs, any tupperware they could jump out of. So, holding them firmly by hand, not too tight, just firm enough so you won’t drop them. Seems he knows now I won’t hurt him, and it’s only for a few seconds, whilst his tank is cleaned. Some get extremely tame and like the interaction, swimming around, onto and nudging hands. Hand feeding Ect. Axolotl are amazing, so cute. Caught mine pushing huge rocks, far bigger, and weighing many times more than him, around his tank. Seems that he fancied a bit of a change, and took up interior design. New Year, a change of scenery. Kept hearing scraping in the tank. Every time I’d look he’d be laid there , perfectly still, looking at me like butter wouldn’t melt. Heard it again, and again, then a few days back I caught him bang to rights. I’d built him a cave from loose rocks, and a piece of Yorkshire stone. Heard it drop, and feared it had cracked the tank bottom, removed it just incase. Never in a million did I think he’d even try to move them. Luckily the tanks fine. Phew!!

@ Lucky you! My axolotl Kalameet hated being handled and would squirm so much in my hands that his slime coat started getting damaged. One time he even fell to the floor, slightly injuring his tail. After that, I was like "Never again! Containers only." I just put my hand on top or use the lid so that he can't jump out. I can't believe your axolotl was into interior decorating. Lol, that is too cool!

Hello, it's been a long time since the video, but my axotl can't stay under water. I cleaned its tank, put it in another container and kept it in cold water, but it's still the same reason why it does this.

My little Kirby is going through a fungus issue right now. I have him tubbed and do 100% water changes everyday. Will Kirby get better without salt baths?

How safe is fridging? I’ve been contemplating it but I just don’t know what to do. Does anyone have any insight on if it’s safe or not?

Hello, kind of an emergency lol! Where do you get Your live black worms? My guy has chemical burns and isnt eating. If I cant get them immediately what would you say is a good replacement?
@danielleallen5395
@danielleallen5395 4 жыл бұрын
I was previously feedling them frozen blood worms, I had already replaced the water fully with filtered water from my brita lol and git a new filter for him with less flow power. I tried to feed him an earthworm and he seemed into it but he threw it up (I think it was too big for him). His gills were white and skinny but have since regained their color. But now he has red lining the bottom of his tail

I'd add a huge cause for fungus is tank temps being too high.

Hello! I’m trying axolotl has been in the fridge for a few days because he hasn’t been eating and I noticed some fungus on the gills should I continue the fridging but add some salt baths? How do I know when things start to look better, he’s very slow cause of the cold water and his gills and tail are curled
@GirlTalksFish
@GirlTalksFish 6 жыл бұрын
I would definitely get rid of the fungus first (and yes, my preferred method is salt dips as described in the video). Afterwards, if his gills and tail are still curled, you'll need to find out why. Is the fridge water too cold (should be 5-8 degC or 40-46 degF)? Was the water quality, temperature, or flow in the aquarium not optimal for some reason? Is he being bothered by a tank mate, decor, or something else in the aquarium? Is there an issue with his food? etc. It'll take some detective work, but hopefully you can figure it out soon! 👍

My axolotl seems to have lost his appetite but i think hes just not feeling good because the fish in his tank ate away his feathery bits of the gills and some of the gills themselves. He isn't thrashing around and there seem to be no discoloration (besides the gills), he isn't hiding, hes pretty active and goes everywhere around his tank and he shows no other injuries. I'm not sure what part of this video I should follow if I should follow this video at all.

I like this video! Its very informative! Hopefully I can use this to mine. I just had my axies yesterday, My black axolotl doesn’t mind eating, but my white one kept on rejecting whatever I’m giving. Just this morning I found out that it was stressed by my small fishes, picking it gills. I removed them and let my cumulus(white axolotl) chill for a while. After work I’ll try feeding them again, and if cumulus rejected it again, I’ll try your methods. Hopefully this isn’t any serious problem :(

A Gamer's Wife Cumulus died last week, just a day after I saw your video :( But Nimbus (black axo) is still kicking and healthy, thanks to your video. I got also informed that before I put them in a tank, I should’ve cycle it, which i missed out :( Cumulus got overexposed to ammonia. Now Nimbus is in the ref while the tank is cycling. I want to have another axo, but not until I see Nimbus is fine and settled with his tank

@@LuciFixed Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! Glad that Nimbus is doing well though and you figured out what the problem was with Cumulus. Let me know how cycling goes and if you end up getting a new axo.
