I don't own an Odin, don't plan on it, but I still watched all this video because these videos are so thorough and chill that I can't help but watch it all.

Thank you so much for this. I very quickly developed a jittery stick making any games relying on the right stick unplayable. This mod was super easy as you showed, saved my console and I've got better joysticks to boot.

This was a great video on how to change the sticks over if you have complications with the stock ones or fancy upgrading to the new switch style ones. I was very sceptical about opening it up with the odin being a £300+ unit however this video is very well put together giving you each step of the process. I have done the exact stick swap mentioned in the video and I have found it to be a better upgrade than the stock sticks. You can also if you persevere get the sticks through the holes in the odin when swapping them out if you don't want to use the vita caps, but do that at your own risk. This took my odin from being average to what I think is a great upgrade, (again personal preference). RGC with another cracking video

Actually I didn't want to replace the analog sticks on my Odin because they worked fine for me. Until yesterday. The right analog stick had some minor drifting issues since my Odin arrived, but I could fix it with the deadzone parameters, it worked for me. But yesterday the stick didn't want to recognize any input from me, so I replaced both sticks. Thankfully I ordered some Switch sticks and Vita caps before my Odin arrived and with your guide it was way easier than I expected it to be. Thank you very much for your great work!

I just did this last week and think it’s a worthy upgrade. It’s not a night and day difference, but I can tell a difference in general. Definitely looking forward to the gulikit sticks though. Gonna drop those into my Odin and all my joycons!

So just a heads up as I just had this happen to me recently, but if the spring goes in the trigger buttons (L2 and R2) just buy PS4 trigger buttons and just cut the bent top off and it'll work and fit perfectly. You can get them cheaply off Amazon and most times they sell them in a 10 pack.

Glad I watched and Bookmarked this video.. my Odin Pro just started drifting via the Left Stick. Ordered the parts and tools from your links.. (Thank you!) will go back and follow the process when the parts ship.

Finally Gulikit's Hall sensor sticks for the Joycons are available for purchase. On paper, it's the perfect replacement. Hall sensing technology, removable caps (so it can be dropped right into the Odin with ease). Following Russ's guide the entire process is done within minutes, but... alas, here I am, having reverted back to the original Odin sticks. YMMV, but the Gulikit sticks I had tried, did not have a clearly defined neutral position. This caused the calibration process to be wonky and you ended up with stick drift the Hall sensing technology was supposed to eliminate. I have not tried using a magnet to counter the offsets, but, IMHO, you shouldn't have to do that with an "official" product. The analog sticks also don't run in a perfect circular motion inside their own housing. It's more of a square pattern. (Anyone remember the Quickshot QS-113 Deluxe?) I have never owned a Nintendo Switch, so I can't tell if it's supposed to behave like that. With the Gulikit sticks installed, when ingame, the Odin's screen also would not reliably detect swiping from the edges anymore, without having to "Alt-Tab" to the homescreen via menu button first. On top of that, one of the stick also made clicking noises, but at that point my disappointment was already immeasurable. All in all I wasted twenty minutes and also scarred the pristine edges and clearances of my white Odin Lite with the prying tool. So, if you ever felt the need for higher sticks, I'd recommend going the cheaper way with the normal Switch sticks. Just chuck them out again if they start to get bad. But feel free to share any positive experiences you have if you ever try the Gulikit Hall sensor sticks. :)

For the record, you can put those vita caps directly on the tops of the sticks. I have the exact same set, and managed to get it. It's not easy, especially if you're fat fingered, but if you flip them inside out, place them directly on the center of the stick, then press down, they'll flip back the right way and attach to the sticks. If you're off-center, they won't attach though, and it's basically impossible to just slide them on, like you tried in the video. But, you can 100% get them on the Odin Pro's analog sticks, and they don't interfere with movement in games like Halo.

After suffering two thumbsticks with drift, I tried this and it’s brilliant. The one big improvement is that Switch sticks have a little more resistance to the stock Odín ones.

Just did this mod to my Odin, and can say from personal experience that doing this is an upgrade. One dispute I do have, is at 5:21 when Russ claims that the caps on the aftermarket Switch sticks he ordered are too big to fit through the hole, they will actually fit through with a mild squeeze. But they do fit through undamaged. I used the links provided in the description, so I believe I ordered the exact sticks. However, because of the larger diameter of the caps on the aftermarket Switch sticks, you might run into the stick caps bottoming out on the shell before full tilt. I would only do this if you REALLY liked the stock caps. The Vita caps are clear choice here. One thing you can do if you really just dislike the stock Odin caps, and don't really care about having a slightly taller stick, is you can just take the caps off of the stock Odin sticks and the Vita caps fit on perfectly fine. I did not test using them in this way in any games, so I cannot say for certain if they bottom out, but the aftermarket Vita caps are slightly thicker on the bottom than the stock Odin ones, so it's possible that they will bottom out before full tilt. The stock Odin caps will fit back on, but will only fit correctly if perfectly rotated with the nubs point in each cardinal direction, and might be permanently loose.

Cheers Russ, interesting stuff. I've been happy with the Odin sticks for my use case, though I'd say objectively they aren't all that. Intrigued to see what the hall effect ones turn out like, feels like there should be a lot of demand if they're up to snuff. Nice to know there are options when I need to replace the originals.

Now if you could upgrade the sticks in the RP2+ , I'd be super interested. This upgrade on that device would be more worth it I think.

Wow, I actually just did this yesterday. Unlike you though, I took the top of an Xbox cap and glued it ontop of the Switch stick. This is a much greater improvement than the vita cap, and I'd say it's at least 25% better than the original Odin sticks or the Odin sticks with vita caps.

i 3d printed new sticks 5mm taller , it rocks! just take apart a switch joystick, and replace the whole stick part. works like a charm.

I just did this on an odin pro using the gulikit joy con kit. The current design lets you pop the cap right off exposing the neck and then you can snap it right back on. No need to replace caps.

If they make taller ones, I'm all in!!! That would fix the whole problem....I don't mind them small.

This is an amazing video. one of my biggest concerns about the Loki was if it was going to have the same sticks as the Odin. If Switch sticks can be subbed in like this, that's a massive upgrade IMO especially if the Switch Hall joysticks may end up being a drop in/minor mod in the future. May end up dropping a pre-order on the Loki after all.....

You thankfully actually CAN add the vita caps to the vanilla joysticks. Best to turn them inside out to start and it is a nightmare but you can do it without having to change the sticks It didn’t seem to effect range of motion

They're planning to use the same sticks for Loki too. I don't know if you have or not. But could you please reach out to AYN and advise them to improve the sticks. I've ordered the Loki Max and I have told them about the problem that a lot of Odin customers are experiencing. The CEO Andy and the support team said that they would take it into consideration. I would be really interested to see you try the hall sticks with a loki or odin when you have a chance. I have a loki mini on preorder and I am quite concerned about how tiny the sticks are. A drop in Hall solution would probably be a huge improvement. I also hope AYN takes community feedback and just makes the sticks taller and the cutout a but wider. It's not the end of the world, but for shooter games it makes a huge difference

One of the things I definitely do want to do once my Odin comes in is switch the face buttons to Xbox style ABXY configuration so I'm definitely interested in seeing what buttons your use and how easy that modification is.

You can actually just put the vita grips on. If you don't want to take it apart. Just peel the old rubber ones of first. Then put the vita ones on. I put the vita grips in hot water from the kettle first to soften them up a bit, made them easier to put on

I hope AYN is watching and tweaks the sticks for the Loki

The OEM analogs wouldn't be a problem if they would just make the damn caps slightly concave instead of domed. This is a huge pet peeve of mine on all devices. Concave caps just hug your thumbs better so they don't slip.

Please, can you tell me if I can do the same on Odin Lite? My left stick is starting to fail and I bought Gulikit hall joysticks on Amazon. The cap of my hall joysticks can be disassembled easily without removing the rubber, so I think it could be easier to change the joysticks . Thank you so much.

Honestly I think the sticks are fine regarding movement, just not a nice feel. Light and a bit flimsy. I'd consider the hall sensor ones

Was the Odin made with the ability to swap parts in mind? It took more tools to change out the sticks in my Xbox controllers. I'd call that a win.

I have an issue with my odin where the left stick has trouble hitting down-left all the way. It doesn't feel different than any other direction, but if I go into gamepad settings, I can see that it's not going all the way. Calibration helps somewhat, but it doesn't 100% fix the issue. Do you think adding new analog sticks would fix it?

I just swapped the caps for PS Vita ones. Considering Switch sticks but the 10-20% improvement isn't a huge necessity for me. Curious to know the difference myself tho

What platform that Streets of Rage is from?

Coming from modern console / pc gaming into the retro community, the analog sticks are literally my only complaint about the Odin. They are also THE ONLY reason I'm looking at Aya instead of Ayn for an AMD 6600/6800 based pc handheld. Ayn PLEASE do not use Odin sticks on the Loki. In an ideal world, Ayn would offer upgraded sticks on the Loki and make that part available to Odin users.

Big question. Do the sticks only have X and Y axis movement or full movement like a PS4 controller. My main problem with the switch was that the stick were useless for games that need precision. Do the stick act more like a PS4 controller or a switch?

I would get the Odin if the face buttons were the same as Xbox controllers. I know you can change it in software, but it's still not ideal for xCloud or native android games.

These essential hardware mods are beginning to become tiresome. I ended up selling my Odin Pro because of the poor analogue sticks. I also had to mod my GPD Win 2, my Powkiddy X18S and my Powkiddy A13. I do appreciate the effort that RGC and the Phawx put into these mods. Anbernic seem to be the most consistent in control quality, I hope to pre-order the Win600 when available.

Yeah... Odin stick turns me into a FPS moron... Also, the placement of right stick is not good. Feels cringed. It'd better to place it near the top of the device.
