Kel-N-Rich, what you guys don't understand about this is that its a concept album with Singer as Characters. And the part that not understood is Tobias Sammet singing on this album. As Tobias usually makes his own Concept albums with Avantasia. This is the 1st time these guys actually working together on an album. They recorded 1 song before this as a bonus. But this album is their time together. James LaBrie, Hansi Kusch, Floor Jansen, Simone Simons, Nils K Rue, Tobias Sammet, Michael Erickson, Tommy Karevic, Sir Russell Allen, and the incredible Michael Mills all in one album.

I never heard of this band. So glad I found this channel to help me experience new music.

Hell yes, Arjen is a legend. First time i heard Floor sing was in Star One another of his projects that also features Russell Allen from Symphony X.

Oh those requests tonight are top tier :D Ayreon is really the kind of band to react to a full album as everything made by them is a full story / concept record. For example, one of their most known album is The Human Equation and its the story of a guy ( James Labrie ) who is in the coma and converse with the personified version of his emotions / features like : reason, love, justice, anger, etc...and we discover what happened that led to his current state through these conversations. Also, I have listened to all Ayreon records and i recognized a lot of the melodies during this song, mostly composed of different themes in his previous works, very well done. I just wanna end by saying that all Ayreon records are an event because of the incredible cast of singers and musicians it brings together, but also because its led by 1 man, Arjen Lucassen, with a clear project and story to tell. It is truly something like a Metal Opera. Always progressive too :)

It's tough to make recommendations with Ayreon because they're pretty much all concept albums so to listen to any track in isolation kind of detracts from it. Best Ayreon albums are probably Into the Electric Castle, The Universal Migrator (Parts 1 and 2) The Human Equation, and 01011001.

IMO, this is far from Ayreon's best song. In fact, I don't think you can experience Ayreon fully just by listening to a single song. In case you don't know, Ayreon is not a band, but a project done by Dutch composer Arjen Lucassen, who writes lengthy metal operas (2 cds) and then invites a (usually amazing) cast of singers and instrumentalists to record them and, in a few cases, perform the songs/albums live. If you want to have the whole Ayreon experience (and it's a fucking great one!), by far, the best you can do is to watch his DVD The Theater Equation. On it, a cast of about 12-15 singers perform one of his operas live, in a theater, with a choir, an excellent band, costumes and all. Plus: you can follow the lyrics with subtitles. Both musically and emotionally that concert/album is one hell of a trip. Ayreon is actually Arjen Anthony Lucassen himself. This name Ayreon is chosen cause it sounds as close to the original Dutch pronunciation of his first name Arjen. He performs all the instruments. But within this project he wanted different voices to represent different characters. So as long as Ayreon is only Arjen A. Lucassen, he is only one character himself and had to invite many guest singers to perform all different characters in the project. On live concerts he also has to invite several guest musicians.
