@@junseopark9774 Agreed. This is the reason. The one time i trained with a coach who actually knew the science behind the workout, he suggested me to do it this way. I guess it also helps the powerlifters to make it shorter and easier, so they can lift more (same with powerlifting squats).

demon shadow he bench pressed 302.5 lbs lol. The red plates are 25 kg or 55 lbs and the collars on each end are like 5 lbs each. That’s impressive even with that big arch for a tiny ass guy like him. Dude doesn’t even weigh 130 lbs. Lastly it seems y’all don’t understand the purpose of an arch. Arching can help avoid shoulder injuries and allows you to stay more planted on the bench and use more leg drive. Do some guys overdo it? Yes but I don’t think it should invalidate the sport. Plus plenty of lifters like Russel Orhii or any of the heavier guys don’t even arch that much. It only looks worse for lighter guys because of their smaller frame.
@mr.t244
@mr.t244 4 жыл бұрын
@@skrubalicious5167 Because heavier guys are actually strong. I am familiar with reasons on why to arch, not sure why heavier guys like Julius Maddox or Kirill Sarychev don't use such an extreme arch, perhaps bcs of their lack of mobility but their benches look much more impressive. That's why it is 10x more entertaining to watch strongman competitions like Arnold or WSM then any powerlifting competition. People are abusing powerlifting rules. Bench rom getting shorter and shorter, shorter pauses in some federations as well, bad judging, inappropriate depths on the squat, for the most part, and the sumo ... Just a joke man. I train bench, squat and deadlift in the gym for the most part but I don't pay any attention to powerlifting sport.
@skrubalicious5167
@skrubalicious5167 4 жыл бұрын
Mr. T I disagree with your statement about strongman being more entertaining than powerlifting to an extent because it’s all down to personal preference, and about your statement on sumo since I know both light and heavy dudes who’ve trained sumo for years and are still stronger conventional. Powerlifting has barely been getting a lot of attention and is a relatively new sport so bad judging and questionable ROM will get better in the future. Plus the IPF has been finding ways to make the bench rom shorter. That’s why this federation doesn’t allow you to lift your head and forces you to have your whole foot on the platform. If you actually watch usapl nationals, you’ll see that most lifters don’t arch a crazy amount, have deep squats, and not all pullers use sumo. I do respect your opinion though and maybe powerlifting just isn’t your cup of tea but I wouldn’t go as far as saying the entire sport is a joke because there are lifters with a big arch and deadlift sumo.
@abeu
@abeu 4 жыл бұрын
@@skrubalicious5167 It''s completely safe to bench without an arch. I bet he can't even bench 90kg without an arch and at full ROM. All that talk about shoulder safety is just an excuse to half rep and get bigger numbers.
@skrubalicious5167
@skrubalicious5167 4 жыл бұрын
Kevin JWK I never said it wasn’t safe to bench without an arch lol I just said it helps reduce the risk of shoulder injury. Lastly, arching and shortening the rom doesn’t add a whole 50 kg like you seem to think. He probably can bench over 100 kg and in any sport, athletes are going to find any little trick or loophole in the rules that will allow them a competitive edge and it’s the same in powerlifting. With all that said, I also don’t like the way that huge arches look and would rather see a normal arch with a bit of a closer grip but I wouldn’t discredit any lifter or an entire sport for their lifts if it’s in compliance with the rules.
