200 years ago, a scientist named Luigi Galvani was experimenting with a dead frog and he discovered something amazing. The dead frog moved upon the application of electric charge. But soon, Galvani experimented on it with some metals and discovered something else. He concluded that all animals dead or alive carry electricity within them. He called it Animal Electricity.
The idea of Animal Electricity spread like fire. Soon, it reached another scientist named Allesandro Volta. Volta redid all the experiments of Galvani and tried to prove him wrong. In this process, the modern battery was invented. But the story doesn’t end here. Some scientists took Volta’s battery and started exploring the idea of animal electricity in dead animals. Some of these scientists tried to resurrect dead bodies by applying new knowledge.
The story of Modern Battery is filled with mystery, adventure and showmanship. Watch this episode of our special series on Batteries - BatteryBaaji. This is the second episode of Batterybaaji, where we discuss the invention of the modern battery and some of the early experiments related to it.
