Quelle époque que j'ai pu connaître, j'ai rencontré M. Béliveau à mon maraîcher à La Prairie et il m'a dit bonjour, quel gentleman ❤

Ken Dryden does a great job yet again. Always articulate and able to put all sorts of situations into words in a way few can do. What a fitting tribute to someone as great as Jean Béliveau. Like Béliveau, Dryden interchanges between French and English, as an appreciation of both cultures and as an appreciation of Béliveau himself who could do both effortlessly. Thank you, indeed.

Very nicely done - but then again Ken Dryden has always been very articulate and well spoken. And if you watch him on CBC's The National the night before the funeral, he said almost the same things word-for-word. A great tribute to a classy and elegant man.

Jean Beliveau was offered the chance to be Govenor General of Canada but graciously turned it down to help raise his two granddaughters as his son-in law (who was a policeman) had committed suicide-he put his family first ahead of any personal accolades etc---speaks for exactly what kind of man Mr. Beliveau was (RIP sir)

Mr. Beliveau embodied so many qualities which are becoming more and more scarce. He was honest, hard working and humble. He had integrity and he was kind. I have tried to bring my two sons up with all of those same qualities. He was retired the year before I was born but I was nonetheless a life long fan and more importantly, an admirer.

the only thing I would criticize Dryden about is suggesting Beliveau was no longer a great star that last year. In fact he led the Canadians in scoring ( was in the top 10 in the league) also was amazing in that unlikely playoff run to win his last cup (22 points in 20 games).

I'm sorry, perhaps I'm too old fashioned but it occurred to me that it is in very poor taste to run any kind of ad prior to a video clip from a funeral.

Dryden misstated the facts about Beliveau's last year. On April 8th, 1971 with Montreal playing the heavily favored Bobby Orr led Bruins, who in that year, destroyed the record books, with Phil Esposito who scored 76 goals and added the same number of assists Jean Beliveau led the Habs back from losing 5-2 that fateful night by scoring the next 2 goals to Pierce the Bruins bubble and led the team to a 7-5 win over these Bruins in Boston. He had 4 points that night and led them to his 10th Stanley Cup. Big Jean made this team believe they could win it all and the Captain made good on his responsibility. Rest in Peace, Jean you touched many, many people in your life time.

The speech is memorable, but CBC really had no reason to translate the parts of the speech they did, especially since Dryden literally presented the exact translation himself.

Alec Sader My first tongue is French. And i agree with you. How annoying! I almost turned it off right at the start...
