i really enjoyed your video. They all look like great papers and your description certainly gives a good indication of the similarities and differences. I have used both Hahnemuehle and Canson papers in the past and have found them to be top shelf. These days I print almost exclusively on Ilford papers Gold Fibre Gloss 310 GSM is excellent and the less glossy Gold Fibre Pearl has really surprised me. It's not as heavy as the other papers at 280 GSM but it is a superb paper. And one of the vest value papers around! Ilford's Smooth Cotton Rag 310 GSM is my go to paper for Matt. Anyway, keep up the excellent work. i really enjoy and learn from others experiences with papers and printers.

Nice video. Always looking to see what others have to say about certain print media. For myself, I pretty much print in color. I have been printing on Epson and Canon luster papers "both are one and the same" for years with great results. For my best prints I have been using for years Epson exhibition fiber paper, until recently when the prices almost doubled on the 17x22 size papers, good thing I stacked up a couple of boxes before the steep price increase. Recently I ordered some red river Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 and UltraPro Luster 300. First on the UltraPro Luster 300, it compares to the Epson and Canon luster papers but is significantly thicker "have to use the manual feeder on my Canon pro 1000 printer" and the texture has that oil painting look, the texture is sublime. This paper most likely will be my go to paper for pretty much most of my prints for the foreseeable future. The Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 is comparable to the Epson exhibition fiber paper, with pretty much the same thickness, the Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 has a slightly more textured look than the Epson exhibition fiber paper. The Epson exhibition fiber paper has that as you said leather texture look to it, the RR SoftGloss Rag 315 has a nice texture to it as well, but it's different from the Epson exhibition fiber paper. If I would rate these four different peppers from one to four. Numbers one and two could be interchangeable. 1. Epson exhibition fiber paper 2. RR Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 3. RR UltraPro Luster 300 4. Canon/Epson Luster papers. Number one and number two could go either way depending on the subject that is printed on either paper. The Epson exhibition fiber paper and RR Palo Duro SoftGloss Rag 315 are so close that either one could have been number one on my list.

Hahnemühle papers are the professional world standard and it shows you mean it when selling your prints. Why did you chose a Epson over a Canon and why not print on archival pigment ink?

I still think a wet fb paper print looks better than an inkjet b&w print, great video by the way

Nice review, I miss the comparative default rendering with Epson advanced B&W modus, how are the transitions, the richness in dark and light tones with the same files ? Weight and thickness does matter much for me once the prints framed, as well as surface glossyness when the prints receive 2 layers of Hahnemühle protective varnish. I find the rendering of this varnish really top.

Hello, I have two questions. I also have an Epson P700 and print mainly B/W. I get some very good prints on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta, which is my favorite paper, but if I look at them from certain angles I see a blue reflection that I find intolerable on a grayscale print. And which also makes it impossible to use the print hung on a wall for an exhibition. Doesn't this happen to you too? The only way I have found to remove it is to spray the print with Hahnemuhle protective varnish but it is an extra expense and this increases the gloss of the print and dust and lint often remain under the varnish. The second question is related to the planeness that can be seen in your prints, they are absolutely flat, whereas my prints on Fine Art Baryta are all curved. What trick do you use to get them so flat? I would be very grateful if you answered my questions.

Why no Matt finish - such as Arches 88? Or if you want it close to the darkroom, the Epson Traditional photo paper?

you saved the best for last! great point made about the camera, film, digital method used to get the picture... the finished print is all that matters. I'm starting to print using the little brother to your Epson, (XP15000) fun stuff, I'm leaning to use the Red River paper because they give ICC profiles. And not crazy pricey. All the best sir!
