Hi Dave well i had to give it more than a few sharp taps, it was stuck fast on the bearing, but its out now and the trans is off at last. I glad you gave me the push to give it a beating Your channel is great and you are a mine of information. Its a rare one having the speed amplifier as well but we just her to roll and harrow our fields for my wifes horses. Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for posting all the videos, they are a great help. I seem to have a similar issue on my B275 as a few others with the pto clutch. When I push the clutch in half way down I can shift in and out of the different gears with no issues. When I push the clutch peddle the remainder it is supposed to allow me to engage the pto but it’s not, I can feel it grinding as I try to push the leaver to engage it. When there is no load / implement on the pto it will grind a little and engage but that is probably not good. The only way I can get the pto to work with a load on it is to start the engine while the pto is engaged. I read a few articles, one below, and it seems to be a common problem but so far I have not found the fix. Sounds like something is not moving freely on the pto part of the clutch. I can see a couple things moving in the inspection window when pressing the clutch peddle but I’m not sure what to look for or if there is anything to do with the inspection plate off. I've adjusted the peddle height to 6 7/8 " to the bottom of the peddle and the ammount of free play to about 1/2 " but still no change. One odd thing I noticed is that the pto gear at the back turns very slow, like one revolution in about 40 seconds even thought it is not engaged. www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=farmall&th=725692
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 Жыл бұрын
The pto shaft turning when it is not engaged is just a little friction between to 2 shafts where they connect, nothing to worry about. The hard engagement is either the adjustment on the pressure plate or the PTO disk has stuck to the pressure plate which is pretty common if your tractor sits a few months at a time or the PTO doesn't get used for e few months at a time. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the reply Dave, mine is an odd one for sure. even has s/a stamped on the id plate with the serial number. no there isnt a nut underneath the rubber cup seal. The shaft end has a 7/16 thread but it wont pull forward.The only nut is has a lock ring on it with a bearing retainer and thats on the gearbox where you undo the 4 bolts inside and the 6 on the outside of the bellhousing which is what i cant get off i suppose until the pto shaft is out

The only thing I can suggest is that you give it a rap with a hammer (being careful not to damage the threads) to see if you can drive it out of the bearing.

How do you judge if the input shaft needs to be replaced aside from it just looking worn? I took apart my 444 pto to replace the shear pin and it looks rounded, but at the same time It doesn't look terrible, same goes for the collar, rounded, but not terrible.

It's normal for the ends of the splines to be rounded, the problem is when the sides of the splines are worn tapered. That is when the PTO will kick out of gear. Thanks for watching!

Hey Dave, Iv been watching all your videos and what a help they have been, Your the man! I just got my 414 gasser running after a 10 year sleep in the bush. I noticed gear oil leaking from the inspection plate below, when I removed the inspection plate, that bearing with the snug fit cap for the PTO is completely destroyed. I put a rubber cap over it with a hose clamp for the winter as I plan to use the bucket for snow this year anyways. My question is, can I remove that bearing through the inspection plate access area (where the clutch is) without having to split the tractor? Thanks Jarred from Ontario!

Hi. I've recently purchased a 414 diesel and I realize that it may have a somewhat uncommon accessory/feature in regards to what seems to be related to the PTO system.. Looking at your video (as with most of the footage I've come across trying to sort this out) there is visible, in the first half, a three- hole sector to the left of the serial plate. Slightly lower, slightly left there is a blanking plate. On my tractor there's a lever sticking out where the plate sits on the one you're working on, and it seems to have something to do with pto speed or something...? 540/1000rpm?? Do you or anyone know what the selector on my machine does? Haven't found anything online regarding this.. These are rare birds here in Norway. Your videos are pure gold by the way!

Hi Matt, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. You can take the PTO lever out by removing the three bolts around the lever housing and pulling out through the side of the differential case. If your tractor is kicking out of gear on the PTO and the collar is worn, the front shaft is worn and will need replaced also. You may be able to have a look at it if you take out the PTO lever and look through the case there. Thanks for watching!

so when the tractor is in one piece, how will the front shaft slide all the way to the back hole? theres about 23 inches from the hole to the tip of the shaft and about 10" space in the front to push it towards the back thanks

@@edlucarseneau4203 If you have a small handed friend you can coerce to reach in through the back you're golden, otherwise you will likely have to lift the hydraulic unit off.

Could you not simply build the metal back up with weld and then grind it back to shape? Because you said it’s not repairable but only for scrap.

Good morning Dave! I love all your videos! They really are helpful for a guy like me in Sault ste Marie, MI 49793. Currently I have a IH 3414 without a pto. I’d like to add a pto shaft to it. Can it be done? If so, do you have the parts or a good resource for parts? Let me know please. Thanks Derek
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 3 жыл бұрын
You would not have "live" PTO, it would be transmission driven so when you depress the clutch to stop the tractor the PTO would stop too. You will have to check and see if the splines are there to run the rear PTO shaft. If so then the rear shaft and collar and a shift lever would get you set. I would have those parts, you can contact me at sales@chowntractorparts.com Thanks for watching!

Bonjour Dave. Merci

If the PTO lever wasn't in gear and the sliding collar didn't come out with the PTO shaft you will have to find it in the bottom of the case and put it on the new shaft before installing. It would be best to remove the PTO lever until you get the shaft in place, than you will be able to get the lever in the groove in the sliding collar. Thanks for watching!

I have a 384 international diesel. The pto bushing part number 751161r1 is worn out. II is part number 8 on the pro diagram in the repair manual. I have tried all the sources on the internet and my local tractor dealer and cannot find one. Could you tell me where to get a new or good used one. If one cannot be found could a mechanist make a suitable replacement? Thanks
