A fun interview with sister Joanna! Whatever happened to that collaboration with Smokey Robinson? Can you imagine those two collaborating together? WOW!

Your journey has been a hard one, but if it were an easy one, you would never have become who you are Carly. Feeling like an 'underdog' from an early age gave you that edge that others could never understand...Bravo!!! Still love you from the first time I heard you...

Just Carly and a guitar sounds perfect. Female singers of today take note.

A kindred spirit with so much soul and a passion for life. Her inner spiritual beauty makes her a rarity. "Beauty, brains and brawn.."Values truth, honesty, family, friendship and gratitude with "faith".

Joanna Simon sang mezzo-soprano at the dedication concert of Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh in September 1971. The work was Mahler's Resurrection Symphony in C Minor.

Thank you for that information. I've looked high and low for video of Joanna Simon performing.

I have had the experience of appearing in a concert in which Joanna Simon was a soloist.

I would love to know more about that experience, Juliaflo. I am so surprised there are no recorded concerts with Joanna!

I was fresh out of college and had performed with a choral group, and in one of those concerts, Joanna Simon was the mezzo-soprano soloist. (I am a coloratura soprano, by the way).

I know that James was hooked on heroin during their marriage and for some reason would not talk about or to Carly at all for many, many years. As much as she loved him how deeply that must have hurt that he would not utter her name. What message did that send to her children? I see in this video she thanks her husband - what happened to that marriage?
@annlanders9785 жыл бұрын
He turned out to be gay. She knew it. Carly makes very bad choices in men.

Not sure what went on in the second marriage. But with James Taylor, it put Carly mentally back in her father’s house where he preferred her older sisters to her. He wanted a boy when she was born and Carl was to be his name so they just added a ‘y‘ to the name. His coldness contributed to how she saw herself in her father’s eyes. This was shortly before her dad had a mental collapse and after her brother Peter was born. James being this way with her further impacted how she saw herself. As unlovable.

Yes, her second husband is an enigma...he adored her and she, him...he loves women, but he also had gay thoughts, which he shared with her later in the marriage. They are still friends and talk...and his tell-all book was something that she encouraged him to do...it was not something that was meant to hurt her at all...she knew about it and said he needed to purge all of the baggage to live a better and more authentic life. She is now 2021...living with a surgeon and they have been together for quite some time now...she looks great and is happy. When you are the youngest daughter and felt unloved and not enough, by a father, it does damage to your psyche for your entire life. She craves love and it can be overwhelming to men that cannot really understand her.

It's nice to know that extremely talented,rich and famous people also have awkward, cringe worthy moments too such as Carly's with Max Von Sydow. One of mine was with Carly herself back stage at one of her concerts in the 90s. Still makes me cringe to think about it.

Simon & Schuster just had it it's biggest best seller ever in Mary Trump's book. Carly is one of THOSE Simons.
@ebnolan38563 жыл бұрын
@@Muttonchop_USA yes she is. But the founder of S&S, Richard Simon, was very misunderstood by Carly during his lifetime that only after his death did she find peace with their relationship. Many of her songs if you read the lyrics are actually loosely and not so loosely based on growing up in Dick Simon’s household.

Not so. She chooses to not perform because of such paralyzing stage fright. And she is a child of the Simon and Schuster book dynasty and had a multi-million dollar trust fund. She’s no pauper!

@@ebnolan3856 that's propaganda
@ebnolan38563 жыл бұрын
@@jillsmcfarland2001 sorry but it’s not propaganda. Read her book Boys In Trees, she talks about being a stutterer from a young age. This caused her much anxiety when speaking or singing in front of people. It’s why now when she performs, she chooses where and what audiences she will perform before. The book is about her family, growing up in the Simon and Schuster dynasty, her fathers and her brothers mental illnesses, and her beginnings as a young folk singer in NYC. So no Jill Mcfarland it is not propaganda. Reading helps ignorance.
