I thought it was impossible for a child this young to develop empathy, I still wonder if these are tiers of confusion instead.

I used to put a wet washcloth on a photograph of a bleeding polar bear that was in a book when I was this age and sob.

There has been quite a few videos of this sort of thing so wouldn’t say it’s as rare as people think. What’s rare is parents actually taking the time to sit with their young kids through movies to observe their emotions and reassure them just like this great mom who was then able to capture it on video.
