I love the sound and look of a classic Deltic, I also love to see restorations instead of sad rusting hulks in a siding somewhere. However the first thing that came to mind when I saw this was "can that turntable motor cope with extended use?" 🤣

I much prefered the look of the baby deltics when they were re-engineered and received headcodes, but my hat is off to them, it looks spectacular. Regarding other comments on here, I'm sure they're not going to engineer the original design flaws into the new loco 🙂

I wonder what the final all up weight will be? EE deliberately built the bodies heavy to make up for the extremely light weight power unit and got their calculations wrong so the final locomotive was overweight, leading to all sorts of desperate measures to lose weight before BR would accept them, including drilling holes in the equalizing beams on the bogies. I don't know if they did this to any class 20 bogies, but it is possible that the bogies here are also ex Baby Deltic as well as the power unit, even if they did spend most of their life under a 20!
@peterjackson-cheadleheath1182

Hi I did have a chat with one of the guys doing it and I seem to remember him saying that class 20 bogies were indeed very similar to the class 23's. But wether that will affect the overall weight I'm not sure. Thanks for watching.

@peterjackson-cheadleheath1182
@peterjackson-cheadleheath1182 Жыл бұрын
Hi Thanks for watching, I see what you mean about the windows, although I guess they are the same ones as were in the class 37 which provided by bodyshell for this loco. The shortening of the bodywork was inbetween the cab and the nose (at both ends) and a 5' ft section in the middle just past the cooler group, or so I'm told. Thanks again though.

What you both have to remember is, that, this is a rebuilt class 37. The only original part is the Napier T9-29 diesel prime mover. That means they can learn from the originals, too make sure they aren't as bad. So all the faults will be ironed out. So the front end design then becomes irrelevant.
@d803albion
@d803albion Жыл бұрын
The issue with the original configuration were around the driving of auxiliaries off the engine via shafts. When rebuilt the auxiliaries were converted to electrical rather than mechanical drive which resolved many of the issues. So not related to body design . Also on Class 20 bogies which were of the same configuration IIRC. Can’t wait to see her running…

@@peterjackson-cheadleheath1182 that was not a thumbs down I pressed the wrong key. I used to watch D5901 going through barrow Hill from the bridge over the Staveley works sidings. Once it pulled up in barrow hi Station. The platforms were removed soon after but on that day we jumped on our bikes and shot around to the station. The gate was open so we went up to the engine for a look and the driver let us cab it. Now 5901 was ways coasting g through Barrowhill and I said to the driver why is it àlways so quiet. He explained it was be abuse it was a light train and it was slightly downhill. Someone then arrived with something from Barrowhill she'd and he said watch this. He set off and the noise was incredible. Then we heard "Oi ģerrout now I wanna shut t'gates ' So we went back to the dbridge. Later we used to see the Clayton D8598 on the train.

@@roberthill6216 Like I said. It is entirely up to them how the loco appears. However, if they are ironing out faults, the front doors on all locos were removed for two reasons. One was draughts. Evidence of that can be seen on the class 24 at the Nymr. The inside doors are covered in duct tape to keep out draughts and this is for a 25mph loco!
