Baby Elephant Cast Aside By His Herd Is Desperately Lonely Until He Meets An Unlikely New Friend

Ellie the elephant was just two weeks old, but already it looked like time was running out for the poor calf. A rescue team found the poor baby alone and afraid at the Bonamanzi Game Reserve in Hluhluwe, South Africa.
Elephants are naturally social creatures, but Ellie had been rejected by his herd. To make matters worse, it looked like the young elephant was also desperately ill. The rescue team quickly took Ellie to Thula Thula, a game reserve in Zululand, to be treated.
Ellie’s future didn’t look good. Veterinarians at the reserve diagnosed him with an infected umbilical hernia, a condition that is almost always fatal. The area around his belly button was essentially an open wound where the infection ran rampant.

omg this is the sadest thing ever!!!! i want to give him a hug! its so sad when animals leave their family this happened with a lamb i has once . he was born and his dad kept head butting him into a tree and his mum wouldnt let him have any of her milk. We took him into our house and gave hime some of the powdered milk. He was growing stronger and was about 2 months old when he died, we burried him in our garden. RIP Burt

Daisy Shadders!!!!! Heartbreaking!! But to know love even for a short life is beautiful... Energy never dies, but changes form. I believe all animals go on in spirit in a spiritual type dimension. Because it's not a physical world, I believe they do not suffer physical pain or feel loneliness. Just what I believe and it gives me comfort. Life is precious!!

I just saw this for the first time and I see there's posts from a year ago. After watching this I can only say God bless the heart's of those who were there for that baby elephant and most of all the dog and his unconditional love for his baby best friend..when just a touch of love is all the problem really needed! Dogs are truly a gift to the world. They are the most loving and compassionate beings and they can heal a broken heart. Notice that almost always a rescued animal needs an emotional companion, it turns out to be a dog.

Dogs are man's best friend. That is the truest saying ever, people love their dogs more than anybody. The bond between a blind person and his dog, and a dog grieves when it's master dies, and yet there are humans in this world who treat animals terribly. It is really heart breaking. Whats the matter with the chinese and other country's in that region, if not for them, the poachers would be out of a job.

💔😪aww this IS a sad story. It's nice that Duma was able to ensure Ellie lasted a few more months but he now has to endure the sadness n loss since Ellie died. Dogs, humans, primates and elephants are the 4 animals who experience identical emotions. Research indicates we are the only ones who have all the same feelings. Some animals have a few of them but these 4 r the only ones know to have all of the same emotions, hence our draw/interest to these animals. We all r able to live with each other (except the primemate after a particular age, bcuza the physical factor). Duma may not have the memory an elephant does but he certainly doesn't just forget Ellie bcuz he's no longer with em. He can't just push a button n turn his emotions off, he's gotta experience the grief of loss too. Sad story💔☹️

The word 'love' is a baby elephant! It's hard not to love them. Elephants are very intelligent...they need very special care and have to be with company for quite while. Dogs seem to understand the need for care & company....great friendship....well done! It's amazing how fragile they are!

Tekin Çağlar ... The video said, that it appeared that he was going to live, but after a period of time, he took a turn downhill in his health, and they could not save him. He, at least, got to experience great LOVE from his animal friend and his human caretakers. He had fun and he got to receive and give love, qualities of living that make life worth living. It is sad, that he did not get to experience a long life.

I had heard that this little guy had developed an infection (I think) that they could not cure, and that he died in his sleep, which is SO SAD. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE baby elephants, so, as sad as it is that this baby lost his life, I just wanted people to know that. He was a sweetheart, who I will continue to adore and remember. He deserved SO much more time on earth, but he can "live" on in our memories of him. THAT is WHY I posted the R.I.P. for him. He deserves to be remembered.

Poor little darling, I hope something good comes to this sweet baby eventually. So sad to learn that this sweet little elephant didn’t pull through, thank you 🙏🏼 so much to his loving loyal dog companion and to the beautiful loving people who worked so hard to give the little guy a few months of happiness, blessings to you all 💖🐘💖🐘💖

Christiaan Baron How animals behave is natural. It isn’t natural to allow the sick and damaged to live. It goes against nature. Animals have more common sense than human beings. Our so-called morals get in the way of what’s actually natural.

@Christiaan Baron Don't try bringing the fake friend in the sky into this, people are kind without religion, it is also true that animals know best and wasting resources on a member that will not survive is not in the best interest of the herd.
