I totally agree.

That's the best way to explain it: soul crushing. Seeing him pull against the chain and cry out was horrifying. And then burdened with chains around his neck. Just awful. Elephants are among the most intelligent animals on the planet, capable of a wide range of emotions, so you know that baby elephant was traumatized by that experience. I agree that the people who patronize these services are just as bad as the people who run them. And these animals wouldn't be in chains in the first place if so many people didn't pay for it for their own selfish purposes. It's definitely not a shining light of humanity. Hint: if you have to put chains on something/someone to make them stay they should never be there in the first place.

Sure but you can't have that when there is money to be made. Blame the system that forces people to find ways to make money to survive.

We survive in spite of our governments. I'm not sure if I'd mind, a teeny smidge less, if the animals profited too but nope, chains and beatings and starvation - coz hey, you (in the universal sense) can always steal another away, if the latest animal you took becomes too traumatised for your moronic tourist to pay up 🤬 If no one paid for rides and pictures, there'd be no alternative. Not forgetting it isn't always a last resort or way to survive. Many rich people happily exploit animals and vulnerable individuals. Rich, poor or comfy inbetween, it's despicable and there's no honour in feeding yourself, or anyone else by these means. Exploitation needs to stop.

Absolutely agree! Tourists have got to stop adding to and encouraging, not only riding animals but photo's too, so many pictures of gormless humans smiling with a chained animal - how can that be a memory anyone wants to keep ☹
