@@pandasitt7417 It's true but just want to convey that rich people now days are in a better position that from a small contibution they can easily help animals and nature animals won't be suffering . All the constructions,pollutions and all fires which are put to forest this all things affects animal being. Animals are all dependent on nature and human. Nature for food and humans for taking care of them. If we destroy nature it will affect the climate,food for animals and will be much more disasterous. For eg killing fish from the ocean if we can't feed them cannot do anything for them then who are people to take away their lives. The only thing that human take advantage from animals is because they cannot speak cannot say anything.

This is likely one guy on a jeep with a camera, he probably has just enough food and water with him for his own needs. No way could he provide two adult elephants with the quantity of food they would need to produce milk, even if that were legal.

Himba was dealt a cruel hand losing his mother just days after his birth. His aging grandmother just couldn’t produce enough milk to sustain him.

@Peter Jarosciak Nature is very cruel in our eyes all by itself. But it's just nature. Plenty of videos of lions eating baby elephants and all else that's available. It would be cruel to prevent that and starve those lions to death. I'd advise you not to watch such videos if you can't deal with it.

@@Based_normie Yeah the only intervention humans are allowed to do is poaching, safari killings, habitat destruction and encroachment, deforestation, ressources wasting and pilfering, etc. Break-in somebody's house, destroy all their stuff and force them to move elsewhere else, and then make a documentary about how they're struggling

@@temilola9366 It's not that we don't WANT to, but for one, it's illegal to help an ailed wild animal, especially if it was caused naturally. And besides, the death of one animal will provide food for others, or for the soil. Death is necessary, whether young or old. It's always sad though. And in response to your second half, animals don't follow the same laws that humans do, because they don't have any.

What are you even talking about? Humans had nothing to do with this. These animals live in one of the harshest environments' on Earth, and sometimes calves don't make it. Did you even watch the video? The females were struggling to produce enough milk for the calf, which is what lead to the calf death. The calf's death wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either. It's nature. Now that calf is going to end up as food for a bunch of other animals and insects, thus completing the circle of life. So, please, save the nihilistic nonsense.

I worthip the work of Sheldrick Trust in Kenya and Reteti in North Kenya etc but it's per country. It's painful to watch these videos because babies cannot survive first 2 years without milk and they don't drink water with their trunks first year.

They are most likely under a non-intervention policy. Plus, Himba isn't dying due to lack of water, but lack of milk, which only elephants or elephant sanctuaries can provide, and there are no such sanctuaries in Namibia.

Did you actually believe he was going to survive? He lost his mother right after he was born, and neither his grandmother nor his aunt could produce enough milk to sustain his growth.

No, they did not help- Himba died years ago. This is not a new documentary and the BBC adheres to a strict no intervention policy while filming wildlife.

It's just heartless. Unless this was automated and it was too late. Elephants are very intelligent. There are even videos of them painting (look it up!), although it's unclear if they were coerced into doing it through stress. They mourn their dead. Letting an animal like that die is just disgusting.

Wishing to a god will not do anything. Donating to conservation efforts might help. Ultimately though, these elephants are suffering because of droughts that kill animals every year anyway.

Wise old matriarch can't give Himba anywhere near the amount of milk he needs but Himba's aunt and female cousin give Himba's cousin Dusty DOUBLE RATIONS while Himba starves. Grandma has no problem with this. Then, the aunt forces dying Himba to join an endless trek through the desert during which we know he died of dehydration. I don't even like elephants but this burned me.

Dusty is his mother's responsibility and his sister helps with his rations which is her right. You can't make them be responsible for Himba. You can't be mad at them. His grandmother and other aunt chose to adopt him, so he is their responsibility after feeding their own. Elephants can choose to take on an ophran/another child if they want, but some choose not to, and their choice is respected. Especially when food is scarce or they have to go long distances, they usually only worry about their own in fear of running out or not being able to produce for all. Dusty's mother responsibility is making sure he's big, strong and can survive. Dusty's big sister can't feed 3 calves, she's already feeding her own and helping her mom out with Dusty. Her brother and her own child being fed is more important than feeding her cousin. Plus, he only eats what her baby don't, like Himba and his aunt. Himba's grandmother and aunt tried but just wasn't producing enough for him. Grandmother was too old and his aunt had to feed her baby first. They are already not producing much because they aren't eating. Who is going to give their milk to Himba when food is already scarce?? Too much of a risk to not make sure their own is fed first.

Hated these stupid doc. They watched the baby dies, before help. I think they loved watching animals dies, so they could record it.

This is infuriating to me! I love your BBC broadcasts; but, I want to tell you that filming a dying baby elephant and not interceding it flat WRONG. The old "let nature take it's course" philosophy is garbage. We do enough to hurt wildlife, we need to do everything that we can to help any creature in despair. Forget the "let nature take it's course"!!! I'm sorry, this is absolutely wrong.
