Someone found a tiny baby starling screaming for help with no parents in sight. Mike Franzman took him in and taught him how to be a bird. In return, the bird chose Mike to be his dad.
Special thanks to Mike Franzman, filmmaker and animal rescuer, for sharing this story with us: thedo.do/franzman.

Two years ago I commented on how much I love this video. On May 13th of this year (2022) I ran across a baby crow in the middle of the road. Totally helpless and hungry. I did all the things you did. Fed him, taught him to pick up his own food. Then we had him outside while gardening and he would follow us around. He taught himself to fly. No need to teach them. Then one day I patted a tree limb and he hopped up there. Then he started staying outside and coming down for food in the morning. Then it got to where he wasn't so hungry when he came down to visit, which was awesome. Then we'd sometimes see him with other crows, which we so wanted. Then sometimes we wouldn't see him for a day or two. Now, we haven't seen him since July 8th. We miss him terribly, but I'm sure he's off with a band of crows, enjoying his life. Amazing how fast they change. All that in seven weeks. I must say, though, that he took a lot of time to care for, and he ate as much as our cat at the end! We miss you, Jetson!

We saved a common grackle when he fell from a nest two stories up. He was so young he had no feathers. We called him Chicky boom boom as we thought he went boom boom when he hit the pavement. We brought him up over a period of two to three weeks till he was an adult. Smart as a whip, knew his name and like you had fun teaching him to be independent trying to not make him dependant on us. Hardest thing was releasing him to the wild which we did by going away for a weekend. We still think of him years later. Only three weeks but it gave us an appreciation for the intelligence of Chicky Boom Boom and his winged friends and nature in general.

Well, bird poop is really easy to clean. Naturally, If someone got mad at a bird they nurtured and loved for pooping on their car, they'd be silly in that respect for expecting otherwise. I have had many birds and when you raise them, you couldn't care less if they pooped on your head or furniture, cause they are just so loving and look up to you so much, nitty bitty things don't matter, just them and that relationship.

I found a little starling just like this in the middle of the sidewalk in my city back in summer 2020. There was no nest anywhere nearby and the little baby was in such a dangerous spot right next to the road. I brought it to the wildlife sanctuary about 15 mins away. I really really hope that little baby had as much success as this bird did.

Aww talk about memories. Our family had two starlings as pets for years named Zim an Dib in my family. We (mostly my sister an I) liked to volunteer in local animal rescues by helping hand rearing the orphans being mostly native birds, kittens an puppies; with the occasional racoon, possum an coyote. Most are released but where we live starlings are an invasive species an cant be released, so we adopted them. Miss those fluff balls~ They really were beautiful and so loving, changed my view on them completely.

We found a baby Starling yesterday morning. He has some feathers. His nest is too high up on our two story house so putting him back in the nest is out. We bought a cage yesterday and we are feeding him a supplement and some worms retrieved from the garden. We were amazed to find him alive this morning. Your video gives me a path to follow in introducing him to the outdoors and hopefully his freedom in a few weeks.

It's a good thing that not everyone tries to feed baby birds, because it's litte risky and also tedious as baby birds can need food every 20 mins to an hour depending on the age and if people don't know how to feed the bird properly the food can end up in lungs and cause death. Most people should turn them over to animal rescue.

@@birb4125 Sadly no, male starlings (Starlings can have multiple mates at a time) kick out native birds from their nests, then woes the females to come. Several ornithologists have said the introduction of Sparrow's and Starling's to the U.S was the greatest travesty ever committed on native bird-life. Coming from a country where Starlings actually are native, I agree, rarely get to see any other native birds anymore because if they show their feathery faces = Starling's engage "Stuka JU87 blitzkrieg schnell schnell" mode and chase them out, I see them regularly kill white wagtails and the like and take over their nests. Not to mention the racket the Starling's are making is absolutely horrendous "SCREEETCH SCRIEEETCH" and that's pretty much their whole library of sounds, just... "SCRIETCH SCRIETCH", constantly, without a break. For next year I'll make the bird box entrance much smaller. Being a non-native bird to the U.S continent (just like the English Sparrow) is why this guy can keep the bird. Even so, pest or not, they are animals acting on instinct, and does not deserve suffering! And this Starling is displaying behavior that I've honestly never seen in Starling's before, pretty cool! I'm stoked that this Starling got such a nice home growing up, I hope it lives a long, healthy and happy life ^^

This bird is actually a female grackle which is native to the US. I followed the guy's channel elsewhere on YT. We have starlings in UK, I never heard of them raiding other bird nests.
