Lady Heart I guess you didn't read the part about her NOT HAVING A CHOICE. She was in the US on a visa and had to go back home.
@motherintoronto7 жыл бұрын
Lady Heart - She didn't have citizenship. She would've been deported near delivery if she had stayed. You can't be sure they'll send you back to your own country given America's deportation history, I wouldn't trust they'd make sure I got home. 'England, Ireland... meh close enough. What's the difference? You people are so picky.' She's from El Salvador but she could end up in Mexico or Guatemala with no money, family support or access to health care. At least in El Salvador she had a base.

How stupid ! Can't believe these irresponsible nurses would fuck up this badly as to take one whole year of baby and parent bonding out their lives, so easily avoided with a little care while handling someone else's baby.

A similar story like this one happen in Colombia, but they didn't realize the babies were swap. They only found out when the two babies, after they grew up became friends in university, and found out they were switch at birth when one of them started making comments how much she resemble her sister and her mother. After looking through family pictures, and finding out they had the same birthday and were born in the same hospital, did they realize what had happen. ....
Maqbool It's a different story from the original comment but it's still worth a read. I had goosebumps reading it. I wonder if there's a video of that here(in youtube)?

I think they do a lot of things now to prevent that....at least in the US. My son was cleaned and dressed in the same room as me and they immediately stuck a plastic bracelet on him that had a barcode that would tell everyone who his parents were and what room we were in. The only time he left the room is when we gave then permission to run some normal tests and even then we had my husband go with them. It's a seriously scary concept though

Why wouldn't the government give the baby a passport and visa to go to his own country? That is strange. They should try and claim his US citizenship at the US embassy in el salvador, then he would have no trouble flying to the US. I gave birth in italy and claimed my baby's citizenship. The process was very easy and streamlined. They even let me apply for his passport at the same time.

@@AriaCadence17 not true for the baby if not born on US soil. You automatically become a citizen of the country you are born in . Unless you are military and give birth on a US military base. Also, because the husband is a citizen , does not make her s US citizen automatically. There is paperwork and documents to be filed to bring a foriegn bride here, not to make her a citizen.

Both the mother’s will forever carry those other babies in their hearts because in way those were each their babies, too. That had to be one of the hardest choices to make. Hopefully, now days they can do a DNA test on questioning situations like this as soon as possible before the parents get fully attached.
@brie36797 жыл бұрын
What a moral dilemma. I feel like if I was in this situation, it'd be near impossible for me to give up the child I'd been raising, despite it not being mine. But it'd also find it impossible not to want my own baby. I'd want to keep both. Which obviously isn't fair. So I'd at least ask that I still be in the child's life. Get updates of them regularly, and see them every now and again. But even that would be extremely hard.
@chickadee395 жыл бұрын
I agree hunni, sometimes people also forget there's the other mother going through this heartbreak.. Happy ending though..xx
@mcaskey3583 жыл бұрын
Actually, this couple said, they expected to keep both and were heartbroken when they learned they couldn't. Lost in all of this is the fact that there is another family going through the exact same thing, thinking the exact same things, and being utterly ignored by the media.

It's better to return the babies. There is a story about two boys from South Africa who got switched at birth and the parents found out after a few years but decided not to switch them back and to keep in contact. But one family was quite rich and the other really poor and the boy the was supposed to grow up rich but didn't resented his adoptive mom and got into crime. Then he left to be with his birth mom but the other boy wasn't happy about it. Then he left her too and stopped speaking for years until he had his own child and then reconnected. The whole family was destroyed at that point and the mothers both said that they wish they had switched them back when they had the opportunity.
@artisticskillz018 ай бұрын
The South African boys. That was switched at birth. One went to a rich family and the other one to a poor single mother. At 20 months. Both mums found out the blunder when the rich mum was going through a paternity test by her husband and, in doing so, neither wad the parent. Both mums regret not swapping then as it severely caused a lot of damage, especially to the one who grew up struggling because he missed out on his real family.

Im a nurse! This is so pathetic. My kids are grown but in this day and age i think i would stick my own identity bracelet on my childs wrist or ankle the minute he was born, perhaps with a tracker too. Mistakes happen all the time, if you ever have a sick family member, I suggest you have a family member sit with them 24/7 and question everything they give them. A nurse started to hang blood on my dad and my mom questioned it. It was meant for another patient on another floor. My dad would have died if he got that!

I saw the documentary and it seems like the lady had just grown attached to the child she had been raising as her own. So she still wanted her own child with her, but wanted to know the one she was giving up would be okay and she would only know that, by keeping him with her. Wrong, but that's the only way she would know her other non biological son would be ok. I know it's a weird connotation, but you know how people are. They feel that "if you want something done the right way you have to do it yourself." I'm pretty sure it was hard for the other lady too to give up the baby that wasn't hers.
@generalnikkerson5 жыл бұрын
Well, the parents that raised their child loved it to, I presume. Its hard to give up the child you thought was yours and it scares the kids for life, if you just rip them away from the only parents they thought where theirs. So usually the families keep raising the kid they got, and visit their own, as not to permanently scar and traumatize the children. In this case, the kid being in El Salvador, that is of course not possible.

@mcaskey3583 жыл бұрын
I recall a story in the US about two boys who were switched. They didn't learn the truth until the boys were like 3 or 4 years old. So they decided not to switch them back, but instead raise them in each other's lives. The problem was one family was very wealthy, the other was an impoverished single mother. The poor child grew up very resentful seeing all the things that should have been his, but wasn't. The wealthy boy, oh my god, callous, uncaring, and arrogant as hell. He didn't give a damn about the other kid, or the fact that he was technically living this kid's life. It ended up ruining all their relationships. They did an update, the poor kid had gotten his life on track, but he wasn't in contact with either of his mothers. He was married and had an infant son. He flat out said, If his baby was switched, he don't ever want to know. From his experience it would just cause unnecessary suffering and he could never love another child as much as he loved this one.

This is the second video I have seen of this situation. At no point do they talk about the other family. In fact this couple said they expected to keep BOTH babies, as they had bonded with the other baby too. And they were heartbroken when they were told they had to return the child to his family. It's all being treated like, this couple was horribly wronged, and there's no talk about the El Salvador family at all. You do realize they went through the same doubt, worry, concern, fear, heartbreak, as this couple. But no one seems to give a damn about them. At best they don't matter at all, and at worst they are potential kidnappers. Why has no one bothered to talk to that family?
