$3,000+ was actually a LOT cheaper than I expected and im pretty shocked that auction didn't have more buyers. It's quite possible NO ONE who actually went on that site even knew what the hell this game was or that it even existed or that it was even rare in the least. There's definitely a lot of luck in you getting that game, but I'm glad you did. 😊

Omg the second he put it in the suitcase I was like “really?!” And as soon as he walked out of the airport terminal without it I was like “I had a feeling that would happen”. Might be a reasonable explanation as to why it was better off in checked luggage but damn I could see the suitcase issue coming before it happened. At least it all worked out

Even though Cody won the "race" by getting the game and password faster, I think you're ultimately the winner because you gave the game to the public which Cody refused to do, stopping him from keeping the game for himself.

The real reason is probably cause Nick knows that he’ll make more money from this video than by hoarding the game. Cody doesn’t have a successful KZfaq channel, so the only value he gets from this rare game is by keeping it ‘rare’ and mysterious. The interesting part about it is that NIck’s video will ultimately drive up the demand for it… but also supply as more people start listing it. It’ll be interesting to see how the economics shake out here

Reminds me of my ethics in game teacher, who made a game boy game for teaching kids math (I think) with a small group of independent developers, but has now been completely lost so much so that he can’t find any of the original files even by asking the other developers

I’m pretty sure he was working with a nonprofit group helping kids in South America at the time, but I can’t remember the exact country. I would share his name, but not publicly like this. Though if you’ve read any academic papers about video game ethics (especially around gambling and micro transactions) then you might have seen him once or twice.

Thank you for dumping and uploading the rom, that's the best way to preserve these things for posterity. I kind of understand why collectors buy stuff like this and sit on it without sharing, but all it takes is a house fire, or perhaps a relative discarding 'junk' after the owner dies, for these things to be lost forever. I really enjoyed the video too, very well-paced and suspenseful. It was fun to follow the twists and turns of the journey of that cartridge, and really cool to think that, thanks to your generosity and sense of community, I now own a little piece of it.

Just wanted to thank you a lot for not being a "Cody". Thank you for not being a selfish collector hiding valuable "historical" objects in an archive somewhere to be forgotten and lost. @gabilegameur except it isn't. Nick has brought, objectively speaking, infinitely more attention to his dumped rom file and he hasn't gotten into trouble for it. Let's be honest, Cody kept the game to himself because he wanted to own the rare thing because it made him feel special. Neither Nintendo nor McDonalds care about you dumping an over decade old training game. In fact, McDonalds did everything they could to let Cody play the darn thing when he brought it to them.

@@StormCrownSr The fact Nick didn't get in trouble says nothing about whether or not the risk would've been worth it, and Cody had no idea it was gonna be so easy. Also Cody mentioned knowing people who work on copyright and has to stay strict to the law because of it. Believe me, nintendo REALLY cares about people dumping games from even the 2000's, you have no idea. And McDonalds didn't encourage rom sharing any second.

I have been a long time watcher of Nick Robinson and I can tell you every video he makes hits just as hard rewatch after rewatch, and will make you smile no matter what. A funny thing about that haribo for some reason in the US sells a different version of star mix then they sell in Europe (I know this cuz when I got home from a trip I looked for it and found a worse version) so now when I’m in European airports and stuff I buy like 6 bags of it lol so I appreciate this modder immensely lol

Holy shit, thank you so much! I love that you even included the "why collectors don't share bit". The beauty of the internet (sometimes) is when people share things in wholesome ways, and you did that. Coddy may have slightly gotten ahead in terms of unlocking the game, but you beat him in playing and sharing the game with us. To me, that's a noble and bigger win than some technicality. Thank you very much, I didn't know if I would play the game but seeing the gameplay got me interested and while I didn't have high hopes to actually play, you sharing the game is truly amazing and I thank you a lot! You make the world better (another win that Coddy won't have imo lol).

I honestly adore that this game for no good reason whatsoever has such an incredibly dramatic, grandiose theme. It feels as though it was created specifically for the situation wherein this game would become immensely rare, and as time went on, the passwords and IDs would be lost to time, and this game would rest behind a locked password as though it were its tomb.

People: Why didn't Coddy just brute-force it? The login screen required a user ID that was 6-digits long, 0-9 and A-Z. That's 36 possible characters. 36^6 = 2,176,782,336 possible user ID's to try. For a computer, that might not take very long (depending on how seriously you're trying to crack the user ID), but for Coddy, he would've had to input every single possible combination by hand. Not to mention, there's a password afterwards. Granted, the password for the ID that Coddy found would have been guessed straight away, but there was no guarantee that would happen. Not to mention, we don't know (based on the video's information) whether or not each cartridge had a single user ID and password combination, or if, say, Nick's user ID and password would work on Coddy's game and vice-versa. If the latter, that means Coddy could have potentially come across a different user ID with a different password when brute-forcing, and therefore the password would not necessarily have been 000000.
