They're still, according to Kobametal this past week, "an experimental [multiproject multiverse] project operating on a different axis from Babymetal". Amuse had appointed him to run Kulture Inc., which aims to use Web3 & Metaverse technologies to create new virtual content &, going by name association, Metalverse is thought to be the test bunny. But no official songs so far (merely a couple of live videos from their showcases), no permanent lineup (going to three to five to seemingly three members again, after Miki & Yume appearing to say goodbye on socmed), no fixed subgenre yet (the Japanese press generously described Crazy J & Naked Princess as 'swing metal' & 'electronicore' respectively, despite the songs sounding decidedly J-idol pop to me). Lead singer Miko's vocals are also tonally more in the R&B/hiphip vein, a lot like ex-BM Avenger Rihometal when she sang lead with Morning Musume. (Frankly, Metalverse's songs so far are way too wordy as well, & glaringly so when the other 4 members didn't get to sing any lines.) We'll find out more about their musical direction at BM's music festival FOX_FEST later this month. Tellingly, Metalverse will team up with Asterism. The latter is a young (early 20s) instrumental metal trio who has already released a lot of music, & whose heroes are legendary J-hair metal band Loudness. In the new Rolling Stone Japan interview, Kobametal admitted Metalverse was trialing an expanded metal dance unit format at their two showcases this past year, but will now do an about-turn & perform with a 3-piece live band. BTW Kitsunes are intrigued with FOX_FEST's listed opening act 赤子金属 ("Akago Kinzoku", which means "Baby Metal" in written Japanese; BM themselves otherwise use 'Babimetaru' ベビーメタル). Another sister BM group? BM + Metalverse show opener? Or some sort of cultural appetizer (the 赤子金属 words are seen in the Metali MV), eg. the taiko drummers at their recent Okinawa gigs?

Meh. Miko is a great vocalist but they haven't figured out what Metalverse is yet. It will be interesting to see their performance at Fox Fest. Asterism will be the backing band and they are spectacular. Amuse is just trying to find a vehicle for Miko as she is a standout talent.

You need to react to Sakura Gakuin. It is the origin of Babymetal and Metalverse. They all got out of there. Babymetal is from the first generation of Sakura Gakuin (2010). Metalverse is from the last generation (2020). So the Metalverse girls are much younger.

I got to see their first ever debut solo performance in Summer Sonic last year in japan, followed by ending the night with babymetal. Best night of my life! Metalverse can definitely put on a great show and they have a lot of potential but still a long way to go to truly compare to babymetal.

For their debut appearance with BABYMETAL, joining them for 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning', we had Miko Todaka (vocal & dance) with Sakia Kimura and Kokona Kato (both dancers). Those three later performed 'Karate' with BABYMETAL. After that, as seen in this video, there were two additional people performing as dancers with the group; Yume Nozaki and Miki Yagi. The group looks like they are back down to the original three members. They'll be one of the groups invited to perform at BABYMETAL's two Fox Festival shows later this month Yume left Metalverse and Amuse to concentrate on her studies. Miki is focusing on her acting career, but is still an Amuse artist. Like BABYMETAL, all of the members are Sakura Gakuin graduates, except for Kokona who is best known for her time in Ciao Girl, another Amuse, Inc. project. All of the Metalverse dancers have also participated in Amuse Camp, the agency's training ground for young talent.

While I like this song (it is very different). I have to admit I like the track "Naked Princess" a lot more. It really showcases Mikos singing ability. She's an absolute STAR. Crazy J could be classified as Swing Metal.

Idk if others pointed it out or not, but the lead, Miko (aka Su-point-0) grew up in the same town as Su, went to Actor's School Hiroshima just like Su, then Sakura Gakuin like Su, then to Metalverse. My own thoughts are wait-and-see. So far I haven't decided if I like them or not.

I love them, their music is just so happy, and they are bloody Kawaii! 😄 They have backtrack for the backing vocals, and often even for the music. This is creating some resistance in the more metal part of the BM fanbase.

When they played last year with the Kami Band, the instruments were a lot louder and prominent. This backing track was pretty mild. I hope the scream/dance girls get mics, without them they're just decoration. Moa, Yuo and Momo are what make Babymetal so unique for me, without them Su and the Kami band are insanely talented, but essentially the same as any other band; a singer and musicians. Same with Metalverse, the backups need mics to contribute more than just visuals.

Their songs sound more metal with a band on stage, check this performance from last summer: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdJifbiB0MCUZJs.html (Kami band playing, high quality fan cam from the first row) It's three songs with the last one being Crazy J. I surprisingly really like the second one! The choreography is fantastic, the music is fun and then comes an incredible guitar solo and cool drumming at 6:46 and 8:07. You could say both Babymetal and Metalverse are combinations of metal and pop, but Babymetal is much closer to metal, while Metalverse leans towards pop. Surely intentional so they won't compete with each other. I'm a bit skeptical about Babymetal's new direction, so I hope Metalverse will get traction and stay for a while.

As a few people have mentioned in your comments for this track, Metalverse is playing on May 25/26 at Fox Fest in Japan. However, in these shows, Metalverse will be backed by the explosive Japanese three-piece band 'Asterism' (if you don't know Asterism, then you need to: they are heavy, insanely talented and incredibly technical). I am looking forward to seeing Metalverse and Asterism on stage together, it could be a car crash, or it could be spectacular. Only the Fox God knows.

The crowd came because of the SG/Babymetal connection, but you are right that lead singer Miko has a great voice and star potential Watching where this group goes with interest ❤️🦊🤘

Haha nice. Metalverse is still figuring out what they will be. With that said, where Babymetal is rooted in metal, Metalverse is rooted in pop. Miko is definitely an amazing singer, but I wasn’t a big fan of their first 5 songs, but this one, and Naked Princess I enjoyed. I’m going to wait and see how they develop to see if I vibe with their music.

They are back to a 3-person group now. Yeah, that is pretty straight up swing jazz. Right down to the scat call & response with the audience. "It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing." I am still puzzled by their name as they seem pretty much a Jpop Idol to me. Same agency, producer, and choreographer as Babymetal. Heck yeah, Miko has a great voice. Her transitions between registers are so smooth. Similar history to Su-metal: Actor's School Hiroshima and Sakura Gakuin. If I have understood correctly from a Japanese reactor, same voice teacher.

They already have an audience because they were Sakura Gakuin. Everyone there knows who the Sakura Gakuin girls are. They spent more than a decade on TV and radio in Japan.

They are a star (acting in TV. CM. etc) in Japan from when a child. The agency they work for is the largest listed entertainment company in Japan and has many stars. It is very difficult to get into this office, and female applicants need to be exceptionally beautiful, first of all. Many stars have been with the company since childhood and take various lessons from leading instructors, such as dancing, singing, acting, etc., and usually become an actress. 😄

The singer, Miko, is bonkers talented. I get that they're piggybacking on BABYMETAL's fame to get a fanbase out of the gate, but I hope they drop that soon and let her be her own thing out from under Su's shadow

You mentioned their age being younger than BabyMetal. Su -Moa/Yui were younger than the Metalverse girls when they started. By this age...BabyMetal has already performed at Budokan and other large arenas.

The thing with idol groups is that to borrow a phrase from the documentary Japanorama, most idol singers have a very short shelf life. When they start to look like they need an afternoon nap, they are quietly retired, and they are replaced with a new fresh face. The fact that Babymetal has lasted as long as it has is a testament to the lightning in a bottle that they captured, the X factor that they have. With how good Babymetal is, I have no expectation that the original group is going anywhere, but I am honestly surprised that it took this long for them to try replicating the formula.

Well now they have to change again, now they are down to 3. Their problem is really that the old Babymetal took back their old possessions, so they have to really determine why do we loose so many members. They need someone in their Background like Kobametal or Kobametal Himmelfahrt who pushes everywhere. But Babymetals crowd Partizipation as they do in the US and Europe. They have no mics and no personalities. Moa and Momo are essential in Babymetals Crowd Partizipation, but this was something Moa developed, not Koba and not Himiko. She has taught it to Momo Metal, but no one else and it is in fact the Antithesis of the Metalverse concept: Have Dancers that don't have or show personality. After Yui left Moa started to grow up. She had the advantage that Su protected her. One look in the direction of Moa and you were a prime candidate in her to kill list. They had used the older Sister concept on Su but when Yui left that backfired. She wanted to protect her remaining sister and Su was not replaceable. At first the girl went into the wrong direction, contrary to Band-Maid they didn't need a second guitar Player, they earned enough money. She had seen how fast abd why Yui had to leave and she wanted to fix her position.
